I was the lucky responder to a craigslsit free add and I scored a Stihl FC 44 lawn edger.
Does anyone know if it can be converted to a string trimmer?

The FC is a curved shaft edger right ? If that's the case you would need the entire shaft assembly and the gear head from a FS40 to convert it. Probably best just to enjoy it as a stick edger. ;)

Thanks for the info. Kind of a bummer since I don't have any grass to edge. maybe I can trade it for a string trimmer. The thing starts easy and runs great.

    Congrats on the free edger!!

As you said, either trade up for a trimmer, or clean the edger and sell it. Then buy a trimmer.

Either way. A free Stihl power tool is awesome!!

Hey! I have a different problem right now. Want to buy a brand new lawn edger, but I don't know which is better for my lawn. One of my friends told me to look on the internet, even shared a link to a review with me. But I don't actually sure that there is truth. Can someone look at this review? I like Worx WG896 12 Amp 7.5 from this review. Looks like it's good enough for my lawn. But I want an opinion from someone, who used it and know about it more than me.

The review I was talking about:

"convert" it to a Redmax straight shaft trimmer.
