Long story short I droped my 441 off to get the crank shaft replaced, after a couple weeks the guy says he can't find a reasonably priced crank shaft, so I find a donner saw for $100 and drop that off. I call back in a couple weeks says he needs a couple weeks, ok fine. I call back now he says he doesn't have time to fix it, ok fine, he says I can pick it up on a Sunday, fine. I call today no answer, I leave message, I call back he answers and hangs up! I'm going to keep calling. My question is if he keeps ignoring me what do I do? Call the police and file a stolen saw report? Call and threaten him, just show up at his house?
He may already be "with the police". I'd go over there, let him spew his excuses and then grab my 2 saws.
Where did you drop it off? Is it an OPE shop or a guys house? I'd agree in getting the police involved for the recovery operation.
A guys house. I purchased a 026 from him a couple of years ago that has worked well for me so I thought he was legit.
Why are you playing phone tag? Go to the address you dropped your saws off at, retain them and find a new mechanic. Stop dialing phone numbers.
Definitely get the police involved. If you don't get the police involved get cousin Guido from Brooklyn!
Good news! After 2 weeks of calling and leaving messages, yesterday, I get a text that says I can pick my saws up on Sunday! So today I called and he actually answered, I went out and got my saws. What a relief! Now I just need to find a shop that can fix a crank shaft for a reasonable price!
Glad it worked out well. With the run-around involved I still think I'd have preferred to have witnesses involved.
He was actually pretty apologetic. Evidently he got a new job and us on the road 6 days a week. Still not sure why he didn't return calls.
Update on my 441's: So when I got my saw's back I called around to get an estimate on getting the crank switched out. I was still getting prices around $400-500 even though I have all the parts! So I figure it's not worth fixing at this point. I get to thinking maybe I should fix the parts saw. So I take a closer look.., it just needs chain brake, a couple screws in the antivib springs, the entire clutch and sprocket, and some of the plastics switched. After a couple hours of trial and error and help from some YouTube video's I now have 1 running 441 and 1 parts saw! And I learned a few things in the process!
Here's the pics. I tested it in a couple small logs in the back yard. I can't wait to get it in the woods and run a couple tanks through it. I plan on running it with a 20" b/c for a large limbing small bucking saw. I might swap out the muffler and recoil, but it's not necessary yet.
