Bunch of years ago I was bow hunting one stand regularly . Had one of those little buggers come in and roost on a limb 5' from my head about 15 minutes before dark every nite . Was quite interesting watching that close.

That exact scenario happened to me as well, only there were 3 little ones that were together, all came out of the same hole in the tree and sat on a branch staring at me.....lol.

There's a lot of screech and barred owls around our area, I love hearing them at night.

Almost lost my fur bomber hat and my head to a barred owl one night out coyote hunting! He must have thought it to be dinner swooped in talons up scared the heck out of me! Luckily my arm waving turned him at the last second.
They are neat to watch and I love getting the great horned owls we’ve got around our camp cranked up. They are pretty good size for starters and if you fire up three or four of them at one time they make kind of a laughing sound. Almost sounds like a group of monkeys.o_O

Poor little guy, probably hungry. I put up a suet cage, and the grey squirrels pried it open and made off with the suet cake in a day.

Screech owl....the bane of my existence in the fall. There is one that has hollowed out a tree about 100 feet from my bedroom. Every night in the fall, around 2:00 AM, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! One night I got fed up, went outside and yelled "SHUT UP!". It was quiet for about a minute and then, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! It was an exact duplicate of the scene from My Cousin Vinny.

As to flying squirrels, I have seen them in NJ. Cool little buggers.
