first time pellet user. Ok I inquired a England stove , I have it in my basement hooked to a chimney , is it nessary to have the cold air intake hooked up? On low I'm burning about 2 bags a day
To OAK or not to OAK, that is the question .. On the Francesca stove here, we ran an OAK, only because the room air (convection) blower was interfering (robbing air) from the stove's air inlet -> and affecting combustion blower setings. Originally had it to -> outside air, but ended up shortening the run to terminate about 12 feet away from the stove: back in winter '14-'15 the winds were 20-45 mph and were affecting stove flame / intake air, due to outside (windward wall) OAK location. The small stove here also burns more consistent using "inside" air, less adjustment/tuning required. I would try to hookup a short OAK that is far enough away from the stove cabinet / room air so your test won't be affected, and see if there's any improvement .. Then you can make a more informed decision how you want to proceed. re: burning 2 bags / day, depending on square footage, insulation of the basement, and outside air temp., maybe - but on 'low' setting I would expect less usage here, e.g. (2) bags = 80 lbs / 24 hrs. = 3.33 lbs. per hour, which seems kinda a lot for (low) setting. Edit: for your OAK, if you decide to test: use -metal- flex pipe ONLY, however tempting, do not use anything else (plastic/PVC/etc.) .. Please make sure the pipe used is in code / installed properly. (* It doesn't have to be expensive, just non-flammable.)
The OAK [ outside air kit ] has been debated many times Rob's info ^^^^ is spot on I have one stove in the basement hooked to old wood stove flue , no oak burns fine , but I use about a bag a day on low .
That stove requires an oak per the manual. That being said, I think they are a good idea but I have problems in the real cold on occasion.
I believe all Englander Stoves require an oak per the manual. Whether you install one is another story. What model is it?
Model 25-PDVC/ 55-SHP10 I did hook the vent hose up to cold air , (laid it along floor), dosnt really seem to make much difference. I'm wondering if it posable I have to much draft ? I can run on #1 heat setting and blower on 9 and it blows really hot air. Also notice the exsust pipe get real hot , hot enough you can't hold your hand on it. Is that normal ?
Yeah, the vent can get hot enough you don't want to touch it. Mine is OK to usual touch for a second or two. That is an outside air hookup. Doesn't do any good putting the hose on the floor.
+1 w/ IHP - after the Francesca warms up, even w/ double-wall pipe - it's too hot to touch, for more than a second. (Exhaust temp. exiting the stove, after warmup, is 275 - 320+ degrees..)
I used to have that exact same stove and I believe I ever went through two bags a day with that. Do you think you're burning too many pellets? If so you can bump that first number down to 4 and let it burn for a bit and toy with the heat setting. Also, you can close up the feed gate a bit at the bottom of the hopper to keep the pellets from feeding so much. These stoves are pretty neat, there's a bunch of different things you can mess with on them.
If you make an adjustment on the board, changing the bottom numbers, make sure you give it a good 15-20 minutes to settle in.
