I have 2 saws that spin the chain at idle. Both are tuned properly and do not have air leaks. I pulled the clutchs and both appear to be in good shape with good springs. The needle bearings are another story. They seem like they need replaced (they don't roll). Would the bad clutch needle bearing possibly cause my issue? Little boogers are expensive, so before I order a couple thought I'd better check.
I have had some needle bearings in bad (rusted) shape before. Took some 3M cloth (or a steel wool would work also). Rub inside, outside, while spinning. Then when smooth again, clean with compressed also gainer and brake parts cleaner, then add some lube (grease, light coating). As for the spinning, I doubt it's the needle bearing? Never seen that one before? I would guess the springs are bad? Even though they may look good and tight, at 3,000 RPM? That's another story.
More than likely the little bearings are your problem. I try to keep extra on hand for all the saws I've got at the time. Never know when they'll fall apart on you or freeze up like that.
If there is any doubt as to the condition of the bearing, replace it. Yes, a binding needle bearing could cause the chain to spin.
