I have tried a bunch of different pellets and never had any clinkers. I attributed this to my stove being a bottom feeder. Guess I was wrong. I have been wrong once or twice before. ;) I started to get small clinkers when I got into this years batch of mwp "super premium" 100% softwood pellet. Last year's batch, no clinkers. But this years certainly is when the clinkers stated in my stove. And I paid $35 more per ton for these than the regular "premiums." This year I figured, alright I'll see what all the hype is about with "super premiumm" pellets. I had the one room of mwp softies leftover from last year and decided to get two more for this winter. Had my doubts but a lot of people on here say the extra money is worth it.

The clinkers don't need to be chipped away or anything. As a matter of fact, I didnt even really see them to start with but heard them make a plink sound in the ash bin when I was doing my daily quick scrape off the burnout and pull off ash off the front lip.

Anybody else notice more clinkers than normal in this years batch of map softies?

I'm getting some minor clinkage. I attributed it to running the stove harder cause its been so effin cold.

I think it is the pellets because we had many nights with even lower temperatures and they only started once I broke into this year's batch.

Has been colder though for sure. 12% colder this year so far than last when looking at hdd for my location.

I am also getting clinkers, but my stove has been running at WOT many times this year. Not sure if I have something dirty or set wrong or if it's just the result of running her so hard.

You should not drink and play with the stove;) You might spill beer in the hopper:drunk:

I don't own a Harman or ever worked on one......do they have a trim for the burn air? If so, increasing it a little might get rid of the clinkers. I had to do this on my stove when I run it really hard during these really cold nights. Needs more air to blow the extra ash out of the burn pot (which is what leads to clinkers).

There is a low draft voltage adjustment to account for slight variations in voltages from the factory to the place of install.

I still think this is a pellet issue because a few times, I have gone without scraping the burnout for a couple days and there would be a huge pile up of heavy ash, when burning a certain pellet, on the front of the burnpot. I never had a clinker then.

And it only started happening once I broke into this years batch.

I've learned to completely ignore any phrase on the bag that says "premium". They all say premium when some of them should say "craptastic" or "amazing" but it is what it is. It seems to always be a gamble. Even Rocky Mountains which are generally pretty good have had a couple issues lately.

might be time to look by the combustion blower and vent to see if it is time to clean.

Could this have to do with the fact that it is extremely cold out? Humidity and/or cold? I have had clinker problems this year also. My first year though. Probably a combination of many problems, some listed below:

    1. Unknowingly purchasing some less than quality pellets.
    2. Really cold out.
    3. Inexperience
    4. Drinking beer while running stove.
    5. Listening to pelletheads from here who drink beer while running their stove, and then drink more beer and tell people how to run their new stove.

Not real sure on the portion or % of each issue though.

I think option 1,2 and 3 are feasible but the last two reasons are just blasphemy, especially #5.
