Hey folks, As I use my new insert more and more, I notice that it makes a clicking sound whenever I am either firing it up for the first time, or placing a log on a bed of hot coals. Is this normal? I am thinking it may be caused by the expansion/contraction of the metal inside the insert, but I haven't seen it mentioned on the forum at all. It's snowing in Arizona today! Woohoo!
That's all. Metal expands and contracts when hot/cold. Makes pinging and knocking and all kinds of noises that just sound wrong. Burn on.
For sure it is no doubt just the normal. Some stoves seem to do it more than others. Sometimes it will go away with time. It was snowing in MI today too. That cold wind today made us wishing we were in Yuma.
Thanks Dennis. Lots of rain and/or snow across the state today. I am really liking my stove and my decision to become a wood burner.
When you do the initial break in burns and everytime the stove goes dead cold you'll hear this. Once it's warmed up and the stovepipe is expanded should quite down -except for the occasional exploding beetle
You're right on that fox! I just love living in a place where one can look forward to, and enjoy, some precipitation.
Fox, I was heating with an in-wall propane heater. Did the job, but propane is getting pricey. I will still leave it installed as backup. Last night when we arrived it was 51F inside the cabin. My wife asked whether we should fire up the heater instead...I said 'nope' and lit a fire in the insert. 45 minutes later it was 70F. She was a believer Nice thing about my location is that I am allowed to take any/all the dead & downed wood I can handle, and it's practically in my back yard. And since I love to scrounge for wood, I also feel like I am helping to thin the forest with my scrounging
