I've been doing some selective clearing and burning of the forests around my house to get more light, and hopefully dry things out quicker.

(Here in the Natahalla Forests of Western North Carolina we get over 90" of rain a year, so any sunlight we can get to the forest floor is appreciated. )

After many enjoyable days of work, I'm starting to see a difference. The additional wood piles in the clearings are aesthetically pleasing as well.

It's a mix of white and red oak so it should burn well in a couple of years.

I have stacked between trees. Works fine if the trees are big enough. Not so, the stack will fall because the wind moves the anchor trees slightly.

I lived on Beech Mtn for a bit and any sunny day was cause for celebration. The main reason I left was the lack of sunlight. Living in the clouds gets you down.
