Spent some time at my sisters today to do a little cutting and gathering. Looks like somebody beat me to this tree.

Only thing is, it looks like this guy wasn't fully prepared and must have run out of gas. :tree:

That's pretty cool, you're definitely in someone else's territory. It's hard to judge, what's the diameter of that tree?

It was probably around 16". Definitely bigger than the ones they usually tackle by the pond. o_O

Wow - I thought it looked bigger than your average beaver tree.

They can sure do some damage.

I don't mind them thinning out the popple, but it looked like they have been after some birch as well, leave my birch alone !

Yeah, I don't like the looks of it, but my sister wants to leave it. It's at the back of her property by the pond and swamp so it's out of the way. I guess we'll see if he comes back to finish the job.

I don't think he'll mind if you finish it and even take the firewood. He's only after the tops/branches. Win, win!

Looks like he's running one of those "Bucktooth 660 Magnum" saws......they are know for cutting an unpredictable hinge and running out of gas at the end of the back cut. Damm things leave ya hangin'!!

We had a family of them several years ago. When they ran out of popple, I even found an oak like the one in the OP picture. I quickly grabbed the saw and finished the job for him but I did leave him the small limbs. We have a bit over 1/4 mile of a creek along our land and at one time there were 7 dams and then after the creek turned 90 degrees we found more dams and also the lodge. All gone now. I kind of miss them.

Beavers teeth grow so fast that they have to chew on wood to keep them at a normal length. We had a beaver pond on the hunting land up north. They dammed up the creek and had a huge dam and hut. Dad had them trapped and sold the pelts, and then had the dam dynamited. Neat critters, but I'd rather have the field for deer hunting instead of the pond.
