I was just admiring my chunk bin. I bought an IBC (industrial liquid container) for $50 from a local storage yard I drove by, stopped in and asked to buy one. Told them I just wanted the rack, not the plastic tank within it.

So I cut one side open and built a wood door with hinges, and wrapped the inside with some plastic fence material I got at HD for $1 to make the holes smaller. It measure 48" x 40" x 48" high, stacked about 10" higher makes it store about 1/2 cord. Works nicely.

That looks like a pretty good contraption.

The door is a nice feature, for when it's only 1/3 full. Won't have to balance yourself over the rim to get the chunkettes.

Yep, that's exactly why I built it. Was tired of looking at the ugly pile of chunks laying around the yard. They probably don't dry to well laying on ground in a pile either. This gets them up and into the sun/air and wind.

Yeah my pile is always dry on top and wet in the middle. Just goes to the firepit though so I don't worry about it much

Looks like Mach's bin would get decent air flow. I've got some chain-link fence; I want to cut some pallets in half so that they are 2' x 4', lay them end to end and use the fencing for walls. Being only 2' wide, the wind should blow through pretty well. I could only grab wood from the ends but that should be workable.

You know, a lot of folks say that. But chunks actually burn GREAT, long and slow, with lots of heat. This bin is a half cord, which is basically made up of chunks from scrounges last winter that tallied about 3 cord. That's about 15 to 20% of the wood, why not save it and use for heat?

Looks great. I've been making some ugly stacks myself, I may have to steal some ideas there.

Good to see you still kicking azz at 90! I hope I'm half that good at that age!

Okay. How did that just happen. Your edit is in my quote but not in your post?

    Very cool.
Could you cut that door in half and make a dutch door so they don't spill out as much when you open it?

Very nice job and a great idea! I need something like that myself, my chunks are in a giant wooden crate with no airflow. But I also use a lot of those for my firepit so not really a big deal.

I certainly could, that's a great idea. I can empty it to about 1/2 way down just reaching in, and open the door, very little falls out and I just throw them toward the back. But a 1/2 door would be nice.
