I accidentally dropped the fire poker and chipped the enamel on the lip below the door of my Hearthstone soapstone stove. Anyhow, it's a small chip (but a chip nonetheless) and wondering if anyone knows if enamel touchup point (color matched of course) holds up well on a stove? Or any other helpful input on how to repair this chip from another unfortunate soul who has "been there, done that" would be much appreciated.
Well, you can get color matched enamel touch up and filler from Hearthstone dealers. I just picked up a Hearthstone Bennington and have a couple spots to touch up myself.
I'm really not an expert here... But as I understand it, porcelain enamel is similar to colored glass that is applied to metal at very high temperatures giving a glossy, extremely hard surface that is very heat resistant. Any touch up paint will not be porcelain. You just can't get the same heat resistance, hardness and scratch resistance with a traditional coating. With that said, I would contact the manufacture for his options as the previous post suggested, try their touch up and see for yourself if it meets your expectations. If your chip is small, it may not be noticeable and a touch up paint may be fine. If all else fails you may be able to purchase a replacement part.
