I got a surprise today, my brother-in-law stopped by and added the rest of the chimney. I have not built a fire yet because I was waiting to get the addition section of chimney in place. Here is the before photo: And here is the chimney after. I hope this additional three feet of chimney helps with the draw. This will be all I can do without getting in lift jacks or bucket jacks. What do you folks think?
Looks good!! Don't let anyone tell you that it looks like a rocket or other thing or appendage on your roof. All that matters is that you've now got the proper "engine" to run your stove now. Here's mine..............that's about 7' of class A above the roof at my place.............which gives me just over 15' of chimney from the stove top. I think you'll notice a big time improvement!!!
I need to add 3 feet to my chimney as well. I gotta find the rafters underneath the shingles so I can put the support rods up though. It's on my short list of things to do. The problem is that it's a cathedral ceiling so I can't just go up in the attic to find where the rafters are.
I had that problem; I have a manufactured home; some sort of trusses in the living-lounge area; no access to that area and no way to add the chimney support to the roof. I was forced to go through the wall even though it puts two 90s into my system.
Gettin that done is welcome progress I'm sure, fire in the hole! You will notice a difference. By adding 3' you have effectively eliminated one of your 90* elbows (each elbow added is the same as taking ~3' off the chimney height)
I got busy with some website work. Yes, I have a fire going. Have not had big fires but getting the flue up and the stove top. I can definitely see a difference in how the chimney is operating. Not the best photo, my little cheap camera just does not like low light and if I put the flash on it washes everything out. Anyway, here is a photo:
I see. I can not go higher without some sort of machine to raise me that high or someone that is strong and lift it all in place. Hopefully what I have is good enough to operate the stove.
Yes, and the stove is burning cleaner, the glass is staying clean and the firebrick is staying clean.
