I've never been disappointed with anything from Penzeys.

I'll second Penzeys. Also like World Spice Merchants out of Seattle.

I have taken making my own to some extremes. I now grow peppers just for my chili powder .. (cascabel and poblanos.) But otherwise I follow Alton's recipe and it is worth it.

Grew and smoked paprika too. Ended up with a pint of chili powder, and 1/2 pint of paprika.

That's cool but I'm being lazy this year. Looking for a high quality good mix. Something I can use in a throw-together-quick recipe.

Got a 32 oz bottle at SAMs club a few months ago.
French's ,,, like the mustard people. Was cheap and good . $5 IIRC.

If it's worth anything, Daryl, I use McCormick Chipotle powder a lot- great spicey heat, and a bit of natural smoked flavor, since chipotles are nothing more than smoked red jalapeƱos- something I didn't know til I searched it recently! I'm a little slow...
