Anybody ever dapple in this. Watched a few vids. And thought about giving it a shot. Growing on a recent dropped oak stump.
We don't see this often around here but have seen some big ones that looked really neat. A relative of mine had some big ones growing on an oak he was going to cut as the tree was going bad and this may be the key to them growing.
I have often been tempted but never had the nerve to try them on my own. With all the horror stories about poison mushrooms I just can't do it. The only mushrooms I pick are from the local produce store.
Never tried it, looks similar to one we have growing on our woodyard... Size reference, that's a 44" post oak round next to it...
Years back there use to be a show called filthy richs, reality show that followed, worm hunters, eel fisherman, ginseng hunters, mushroom hunters, and burl tree hunters and how they went about collecting them. Was a really cool show, anywho those mushroom hunters (which I think was a couple who traveled the country picking) LOVED the chicken/hen of the woods. They use to sell them to local restaurants for some excellent money. Restaurants would feature them as a delicacy on their menus. Burl guys were pretty cool, watching them get those out without damaging them was a real challenge sometimes...... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3654672/
