I was moving some cherry I CSS early last december and checked center of stack. Most splits registered between 12 and 13.5 on meter. A couple were 13.7 - 14.
Question is should I burn this winter or wait?

Did you split and check the center of the piece? If you did and are getting that reading then yes, burn it. If you checked the outside of the piece then you might want to check the interior and wait to burn it.

Checked inside one of the thicker splits. It read 16.7 another 15.5.
    Probably best to wait

If inside of a freshly split piece is 16% you are good to burn!

In our experience, cherry dries fast! Burn it!

btw, cherry is another one that we've cut, split and burned it in 6 months. I can also recall several times at deer camp we'd cut a young cherry and use that for our fire in the tents. It worked; not the best, but it worked.

Did you split a larger piece and take the MM reading on the fresh split face? Most accurate reading of interior moisture content.
Unless you have older wood, id burn it.
EDIT, didnt read all posts prior to my post

I've burned tons of Cherry, it does dry fast. Before I got on the 3 yr plan, I burned 8 to 10 month dried Cherry.

Cut a good leaner down last weekend. Stacked. Found a couple more that are grown all kinds of funky shapes that will be next. Burn away.

Should be good to go. I think the "aroma" of cherry fades when it gets down to 8-10 % MC. I always keep a stash to burn around the holidays.

That’s when I start burning them. Heck I’ve burned closer to 20 or just a smidge above what you have there go for it....
Usually the last little residual moisture is hardly worth noting. If your fire is hot throwing that on there will be just perfect.

If my MM is right and I think it's close. I store it inside in wooden bins. Cherry will dry down pretty good out of the weather.
