Couple weeks back im scrounging wood along the side of the road. Lady stops and asks if i do chain saw work. "Of course" i reply. Went to check it out and turns out to be a "Charlie Brown Christmas tree" looking dead spruce in her front yard...50' tall. Family or friend id cut it straight down, but not here. Last Fall after seeing Chvymn99 s thread about taking some trees down, i decided to try my hand at using a cherry picker. Gave her a price and got the job. Had to buy a ball hitch and new wire for light hookup. Half day rental and im on my way. The job was close to home so i called Ms. buZZsaw to take the prior pics. I came down and grabbed the camera. Thats her in my PU. Used 170 and DeWalt pole saw. 261 felled spar. Loaded up and made a dump run...no time to scrounge there. Came back and returned lift. A little clean up with the blower and rake and i was done. All in all an "easy" take down and i nervously enjoyed it. Breezy day here and it was weird being next to a tree top while it and the bucket were rocking in the breeze. Have another bucket job coming up and just wanted to get my feet wet.
Nice going Brad. Couple years you’ll probably own a whole fleet of trucks and cranes. Good job brother.
Always wanted to get up in the world!!! No fleet, no trucks, no crane. Too much overhead and headache. Im too old for that. Ill take the occasional easier take down, chain saw, making firewood jobs.
Whatever keeps the boat afloat. How’s that pole saw working out? How long will it run on the battery that came with it?
I was surprised how light the 4' sections were when i loaded them. Bark fell off stump that she wanted left about a foot tall. I told her it is probably rotting in the ground and a good wind may heave snapped or taken it over in the near future. Pole saw okay. Cant bear down in a cut otherwise it stops and you have to remove and restart. Slower rpm's than gas saw. Weight of tool bears on cut with dawg resting on limb. Didnt come with a battery. I had three older ones and they seemed to die out rather quick. Dunno how much power they lose over time, but i use them in circular saw and impact driver on a fairly regular basis. Have a few other 20v cordless tools i use on occasion. I used it while reaching from ground and top limbs and topped tree from CP. If it was something i used weekly and for extended periods idve invested in a Stihl gas powerhead for saw, string trimmer etc.
Nice Job! For those that like this type of gig... but can’t or don’t like to climb... this is the only way I get high and do a tree... Must have overlooked the mentioned...... Monday at work must have overlooked it...
