I'm looking at getting this little clay thrower, reviews seem pretty solid and its a great price. Thoughts? http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0013...1_2?colid=3KNFEMVDSMKFA&coliid=I1W13X2XRT1O5L
If this helps, weld it to an old tire/wheel combo. You'll be able to roll it around, but the extra weight helps it stay where you want. The spikes get loose in the ground after a bit.
X2 on welding it to a steel wheel. Even better, fill that wheel with concrete. If you just push the spikes in the ground, make sure the person doing the "pulling" steps on the rear spike, it'll help hold the thing in place. As to the unit itself, they are decent, especially for the money. Don't expect this to throw very fast or far though, it doesn't really compare to those professional units like you see at ranges. I've used these several times, but when me and my buddies get together to shoot we still prefer to throw by hand, the mechanical thrower get's left at home. Once you figure out the speed and range this thing throws, it's pretty easy to bust 100% of the clay birds out of it. Which is great if you want to look (and feel) like a pro, but not so great if you want practice for hunting season. I think it's hard to beat a plastic hand thrower, and then you can change the speed and elevation with each throw. This is what we use. You can throw doubles, or take the handles out and zip singles or staggered doubles. http://www.amazon.com/MTM-EZ-Double..._sim_sg_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=07XQF5P55G206AF4KMTW
