Spent the last hour getting some of my things organized since the weather has turned. Bottom picture shows beginning mess. This is a quuck start, looking for ideas. New chains on top, sharpened in drawer with files, to be sharpened on hooks, and saws are up and out of harms way. More to come, but wanted some ideas from the group. Sharpener is temp mounted since I take it with me often to sharpen for friends. Mount for sharpener is crude, but the legs are good for ratchet strap tie down wherever it is needed. image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

Just my 2 cents here and I don't know what the rest of your setup looks like and what you have, so might be off-base! If that is your main work area for doing saw work, I'd clear most of the bench for work area. I'd find the saws to be in the way hanging on the side. I would have tools in the chest (and probably have the chest on the side of the bench for more space) and keep my chains in another spot - seems a waste of good tool space to store chains. I do the same with hanging chains that need to be sharpened and keep sharp chains in small plastic containers. You have a nice work area and ultimately, what works for you is what matters! Cheers!

Thanks for the feedback. I have a much larger tool/work area in my main garage. I got that little craftsman box for $20 since it has a dent. Bought it just for the chains etc, but it certainly lacks the right tools for the jobs ahead. I plan to move all of the bolt bins and open the rest of the bench up and slam a stainless plate down etc. thanks for the ideas! :dex:

I don't have a dedicated chainsaw work area. For now, I'm using my woodworking shop. However, once I start grinding chains regularly, I may have to think about a dedicated metal-working area. Thankfully, I'm not too busy so far.

Ahh......I kind of figured that this was not your main work spot, so what you are doing makes sense! Would like to score a small chest like that for $20! I need a good tool chest at some point - I have a lot of freebie metal storage drawer units, but a dedicated chest would be nice right near the bench. Always fun to think of good ways to set up a work area! Cheers!

I kinda like the saws where they are, but if you do projects down there? They may be in the way? Looks great to me..

My bench is sometimes clean.. Most times... Not.. :(

i usually lay a towel down on the bench, helps keep little screws etc from bouncing all over, keeps stuff cleanish and visible as well.

Messy or not, great ideas can be obtained from simple pictures. What works for some, may not work for others but I wanted to start this to see what ideas can be obtained. Having the chainsaws mounted to the end of the bench works for me since it is quick, and visible when I crash into the garage soaked and cold. Plus the air gun is nearby so i can blow them down quickly also.

There must be more pictures and ideas out there.............

    Nice looking benches guys!

Here's mine. My grandfather built this originally as a bar I think. It was mostly used to store toys in the basement play area when I was a kid. It still serves a similar purpose today. :)

It's got a laminate top which cleans up nice after being covered in oily sawdust and metal shavings. I don't do much major overhaul stuff - mostly bar and chain maintenance - so its perfect for what I do. Holds the entire collection, and I've even got 1 more spot for an 090. :D
