I have a Homelite Electric Chainsaw 16". Below is Pic.. Something interesting happened on Monday. I came home from work with 20 logs to still buck up. Now normally I am very conscience of only going 2 hours with the Electric chainsaw and then I quit for the day. Monday I totally lost track of time and 3 1/2 hours later the chainsaw seem to die. Would not run for nothing and when I pulled trigger it just made a gross grinding noise. and the sprocket would not spin.I thought for sure I blew the 3.5 HP Motor... I go to show my neighbor today(thursday) because he is alot more savvy at small engines than I am....... Low and behold it work perfect now.... He said it just over heated... What do you guys think???

ps... Monday I got through 17 of the 20 logs...Haha

Totally possible it has some type of overheat protect. If it works, run it. :salute:

Same thing happened when o ran a Husqvarna gas powered saw. Only it never started again!

Sounds like it just overheated and the safety tripped out. Ive had that happen on other electric tools before. If it works now run it as usual just for less than 3.5 hours! ;)

How long of a cord and what guage are you using? I'm not finding anything about it's Duty Cycle in the manual to know whether it requires rest/cool down. If your run is longer than 50 feet you need a 10ga cord, according to the manual for a 9 amp draw.

I'm putting my guess that a tooth broke off a gear.
Overheat, overload protection just opens the circuit so it wouldn't grind.
Like loosing a couple of teeth on a vehicle ring gear it will usually jump over and keep working.
Well until it lands on that spot again.

Yes. Especially when you work those lithium ion batteries. Once they hit a certain temperature, if it hasn’t run out of charge, it will shut down until it cools off. But seeing your picture it is corded so maybe it’s something similar (thermal limiter) to protect the motor?

Sounds like a good excuse to get 20 more logs to me.
    Try to duplicate the problem.
