I was trimming some more firewood today and my saw just locked up on me, I got it jammed and it kicked and just stalled. I went out for some food and beers, just got home and pulled the plug and still nothing, locked up tight! I took the rip cord assembly off and that's fine too, I cant turn it over. What the hell???? Any ideas??

Your saw seized. You likely blew the P&C, and bent the rod. Engine gone. You do not say what saw you had, so I cannot be more specific.

As for a replacement, I would recommend a better Husky than a Rancher. A Husky 365x-torq has the same engine as the 372xt but not as good porting (they can be easily converted though). You can get a new 365x-torq on Ebay for $650 with free shipping with a 20 inch bar. That is the same price as a new Husky 562xp on Ebay, a 60cc saw, which is also a much better saw than a Rancher, You can get either saw for only $150 more.

The Jonsered 2166 is the same saw as the 365x-torq if that wasn't clear to you and a great price on that saw shipped to your door. This is really bad because I was thinking of buying that saw and doing the conversion. Stop stop stop.

Take the muffler off and take a peek at the piston and cylinder. If you are really lucky a bolt or screw came loose and jammed behind the flywheel.

Did the saw rev up before it quit?

You know what, you might be on to something here....... When I took the flywheel cover off I noticed the screw missing for the kill switch, when get some time later I will pull it apart more.
Thanks for the offer Terry but I needed the saw today, unfortunately I can't wait for shipping. I have limited time left to button up my 20 projects before the snow starts to fly.

Well, you should do fine with that 391. Yes, the snow will fly soon. Snow level came close to me last week, but bounced up to 10k again as we warmed up. Crazy weather here this year. Wettest September on record, and may be the driest October.

Yes... so tempting. I would rather have another red J-red than a Husky, even though I know they are the same saw. Different shades of the dark side to a StihlHead like me. I have been looking at the 365xt saw instead of a 372xp/xt. Though I would want at least a 24 inch bar on it. Lot smoother than my 044, and I do not like the 441 or the big vibe of the 460. 356xt is a sweet spot in 70cc saws. CAD CAD CAD!

That was it my friend!! I pulled the flywheel off and there it was, the kill switch screw jammed right behind it. Oh well, now I have an awesome saw and a beater back up......

Amusing, the J-red is listed as having 4.8 HP, whereas the same model Husky 365 x-torque and SP both have 4.6 HP... which is barely above my MS361 with 4.4 HP.

It is all just numbers without an independent lab doing the testing.

To the OP, I am glad it was a simple fix.

Oops, I missed you bought a new saw, congrats. I like the 391 I have a 390 and have run the 391 and the 391 is a better saw from my experience. Another
