If you can get past this goofy presenter, this is a pretty good video.

Wow! I'll pay you something plus the shipping. Nice. Does it work well? I never used one.

It's free I can ship it free too. ;) It works decent with some patience I only have one wheel for it though you'll need to get more. There are a bunch of mods I did to it to make it better and it does work good if you watch some of the better videos on bench grinders. Actually I liked it for bigger chains but you do need a steady hand.

I'm off to bed but shoot me a pm I'll clean it up tomorrow for ya. It really is nice once you get used to it! Beats a hand file any day...

No way, hand filing never overheats the cutters & stays sharper longer :D

Just like hand filing, grinding a chain sharp depends on operator skill and knowledge. Maybe even more so. You CAN grind a chain to just as good of a result, but it takes experience and a good machine.

I've never operated one of these....it looks like from the video, you want to just slightly dress the chain..not too much contact

Yes you only take a small amount off with it and I mean small! If you junk a chain in the woods you can fix it pretty fast with this but you can't do it in one pass you gotta go around taking off a little each pass till it's cleaned up. This is not the same unit by far but there is a lot to be learned from it. Many of the motions and actions are the same!

O and don't even try the rakers with this unit! That guy is ruining his wheel and you will have to redress it every time which means duller chains. Believe me I tried.

Just found this one for the first time.... Maybe I should post this in the thread about what you'd do if you win the lottery!! Don't think I've seen this posted here before.

Okay... Touche'.. You do have to admit, however, the Franzen video doesn't come with the arousing music. I get the feeling that if I owned either one of those my friends would be over all the time and there'd be a whole lot of this.

Paying it forward! ! Good man Pete!

Firecracker- Here at FHC, Paying it forward is part of our philosophy. It's best to just take it, use it, and if you ever upgrade? Then do the same as Pete and pay it forward to the next guy :)

I have an Oregon Chain grinder I was gonna sell (paid $160?-$180?) But have decided to use it as a Raffle or Door prize of some sort at the GTG this Spring. Will make someone a very happy person who doesn't own one.

The Timber Tuff I have now, was only $100 and it is 10x's better than the Oregon I bought 1st. The Northern Tool model and Timber Tuff can be had for $99 when on sale. Great unit. It's based off the Oregon 511, but uses a smaller motor and cheaper components.

Its also nice to see it used! It may not be a pro sharpener but it does a decent job. I am doing far more chains than the HF unit could handle right now between friends and family. The Timber Tuff is kicken butt! I am up to about 10 chains a night right now and thats really about all I can do for now. The timber tuff doesn't feel cheap at all and is working great.

10 chains a night is a good number. Wow! Is your old one the HF model? That one seems to work well from the video. I'm not sure about using it for the rakers as others have pointed out. I'll hand file those. I'm supposed to go over to my buddy's house tomorrow and bring all my chains. He has a 40 year old Oregon I believe it was. We're going to hang out for a while in the garage and sharpen some chains. It's warm these days, so it's not bad to spend some time in the garage.
