image.jpg Got this chain when I baught my 461 used. I'm guessing it's square ground skip tooth? The chain that was on the saw was skip tooth round so I can sharpen it myself.

My question is... I'm guessing I can't sharpen this chain with a round file? And how difficult is it square file a chain. I watched the tutorials and it seems pretty complicated.

    Thanks!

I’d say get a double bevel file and see if you can learn it. It’s much easier to learn with an already square chain, than to start learning and converting at the same time.
Now you can easily see how the file is supposed to fit in the tooth , and you can copy the angles.
If it turns out you can’t figure it out, which I highly doubt, just round file it down the road.
In my opinion square filing is quite fun. I have a good time hunting for that perfect corner. A set of vise grips or a chain vise helps a lot keeping the tooth steady.
After I got hooked on square chains I bought an Homelite410 chain vise. This is, in my opinion, the best upgrade for square filing you can make other than getting a grinder.
There’s a great square filing thread here on the site
