Looking for opinions on how well either works for a wood conveyor. What I find is the splitter is just way to fast for a 1 person operation . Need to clear wood away easier . I can find lots of old hay conveyors that are 30 plus feet long that are chain with paddles . How well do these work ? I will need to shorten the conveyor , want to go right off the splitter into the round wood shed . Any suggestions?
I've got a 30' New Idea chain conveyor that works well. Belt conveyors are probably a better option, but this thing works fine.
I have a feed conveyor with a belt. The paddles were mostly ripped off when I got it, so I made my own wooded paddles for it. So far I have over 30 hours on it. The actual firewood conveyors usually have a chain.
I’ve got my eye one the same conveyor, but it’s a little drive and don’t think it would fit on the 20 ft trailer . Closer to home would be a deal maker for sure .
We put mine on my 20' flat bed trailer & hauled it home no problem. About 40 miles from Armbru84 's place.
Did you lay it on it’s side or just strap it down ? 10ft or so hanging out the back I guess isn’t to bad , heck , those windmill blades that I constantly see headed west on 21 got to have 100ft at least hanging over . Those things are huge .
We backed it on the trailer & let the top end hang over the truck bed. I did put the axle on jackstands because it was a bit wide. Tied it down good with heavy 2" ratchet straps & drove through a wicked thunder/windstorm no issues.
I use a old 40 foot(hay elevator) unit and the chain is bad and ready to be replaced. They work ok but I find if the piece sits sideways once and while it will jam where the sections are bolted together. For me that spell ripped chain..I have learned to make sure the wood sits in the middle and use plenty of oil on the unit as then things slip easier. I called today and a new chain runs $11 a foot (both sides with the connection links) so a 40'unit be around $1100.00 for new chain. The same company sells a wood unit and the price new for a 30' unit is $3300 Cdn and another $1300 for the undercarriage.I hope this helps and for sure is nice to just set up and work all day same spot and not have to toss the pieces .
I mounted a 20' ear corn elevator to an old boat trailer so far it works good. There are some pic and a video of it in operation at our GTG
