Just purchased a saw with a 24" Tsumura bar. First time owning one. I prefer Stihl RS chain. Can i get premade chain for this size or do i need it cut from a roll?

It should be 84 dl, just like a stihl bar. Stihl just calls theirs 25”, for whatever reason.

What Kevin said, 24/25 should be 84dl.
I have Forester, GB & Tsumura bars in Stihls they all run 84dl, once they get all stretched out & towards the end of the chain life you may have change up the drive links. Those larger spikes will decrease your cutting length. 23-1/2” if I remember correctly, maybe it was 22-1/2”.

Just checked and identical. IMG_0533.JPG In Stihls defense the 28" bar is 3" longer so thats why its 25"??? IMG_0534.JPG

I measured about exactly 1 1/2 inches of usable bar difference between the 361 with a 24” bar and double dogs and the 500i with a 28” bar and r version double dogs. IIRC it was 25 1/2 inches usable vs 24. I gotta get a 32” lightweight for the 500. I doubt that I would ever take it off. Just a few more teeth to file.

He claimed to have put a different clutch cover on it (no captive nuts) but when i tried the original, it didnt fit. Seems like one for a 462. IMG_0535.JPG

Is the Tsumara .63 gauge? Stihl has .63 gauge rs.
I’d prefer all my big saws have 3/8 .50, but Tsunami is an oddball.

No idea. Never measured one. I just know a 24 is bigger than 20, 28 is bigger than 24,,,,,,,,:)

And chain dl count is a part of the bar, not necessarily whats normal. It’s usually printed on the bar. Doesn’t really become an issue until you get north of 28”. Stihl is usually 91, husky usually 93, but there are aftermarket bars that might use a different dl count than what’s considered normal.

.325 dl counts are all over so I don’t even try to remember which is which between brands

That small cover might be for a 261. And that larger west coast cover is actually for the 044-660 saws. Not sure if it’ll fit a 500 or not

Yep. It depends on which model you’re measuring. The oil tank and dogs stick out further on some than others

Its 050. Tried the Stihl chain and it fit. Stamped 050 from what my old eyes could see. I prefer the 050 375 as well. Smaller saws 325/063 chain

Yep what he said. I run a Sugihara 20" on my 562xp and run off the shelf Stihl or Oregon chain.

The cover does fit. There is a black plastic piece (brake dust cover?) with the extras which was replaced so the Wesco cover will fit. Attaches to the housing. I compared part #'s n the 261 & 462 covers and didnt match either.

Bet ya like that bar after some use. My experience with the Japanese steel is very favorable. Takes a long time before the rails need dressing.

Put it on the saw then measure how big of a piece you can cut.

There is a large WC cover for the 462 and 500, but it still looks like the original with the same lines. Was just saying that THAT large cover isn’t for a 500i
