I am waving the BS flag high & wide about these prigs not being destructive & only bothering untreated cut lumber …

I was pruning a large cedar tree for my mother today & saw a couple carpenter bees floating around after dropping a couple of limbs.

    Then saw some holes. IMG_1660.jpeg IMG_1659.jpeg IMG_1663.jpeg IMG_1661.jpeg

Any of you arborist type folks ever experience this ??

I’ve never seen em go after a cedar. They must’ve been desperate. The various diy traps floating around the interwebz seem to be quite effective. You could always take a more active role in their destruction… these work well on them. IMG_6081.jpeg

When I lived at the other place we had lots of these bees. They bored into everything in sight, trees, decking treated and untreated, any species you could name. I had holes all over my cedar pergola in the handrails on the deck, wood siding, they will bore into anything they can chew. It looked like someone took a 1/2 drill bit and drilled holes on everything outside

Where we are now I have not seen one.
