Looking for a site or forum that has lots of camper/RV info. Anybody into camping? Have any favorite sites or forums or accessory outlets to share? Any favorite brands? Any thing to stay away from? Any storage ideas? Any must have accessories?
I'd be interested to see what this post gets for responses too. I'm more of a backpacker but still do a fair share of tent camping as well.
We're big campers too. Now that the kids are bigger, it has slowed down because of all the stuff they are into now. We have a travel trailer. Whatever you decide, make sure you have a tow vehicle that is more than capable of towing what you choose. Don't listen to the dealer on what tow vehicle you might need, they always say it should be OK. Rv.net is a big camping forum. Lots of good info. Lots of good places in Ohio at the state parks, probably not too far from you. Hocking hills SP, Westbranch SP both excellent.
Now TurboDiesel, you guys already have a camper.....can you refresh our memories with some pics? We camped a bunch growing up, with a standard camper, then a canvas fold out type pop-up; great times
I will say, the first question the salesperson asked when I said I was interested in the toy hauler was, "what kind of truck do you have?" when I told him Dodge diesel, he said ok good, because too many want a toy hauler that's more than what the truck is capable of towing
about 3 hours we usually look for rural areas or in the mountains or at least off the beaten path. Which is what a lot of Pa is. We have camped on a beach in Murtle Beach, Sc. With 3500 (units) of our closest friends........... Nice place.....and.......It was fun but...give me the woods, wildlife and mountains... ....
COOL RIG!! Amateur suggestions from a wifey, Jacks, are yours hydraulic? If not get good manual ones that are easy to adjust. Also pieces of 2x10's incase you park on soft ground. Leveling bubble, guessing yours has one built in? Tire chocks. WWW had small cheap ones in the past, his new ones are bigger and hunter's blaze orange (harder to forget them and drive away in that color) Generator. Quieter is gooder. WWW likes to take a charged battery charger when he goes to the middle of nowhere too. Spare keys! Your keychain, wifes keychain, and truck, also, do you use a padlock on the hitch chain? Spare keys for that too! Don't ask why I know that. 12V cigarette lighter cell phone charger. Made that mistake too during wildfire evacuations, (we did not own a generator at the time), I only brought my wall plug in one... Speaking of electricity, pack the toyhauler users guide. We tripped the GFCI in the bathroom and took us forever to figure out why we did not have power in kitchen In our old 1978 trailer we brought extra water to "flush" the toilet without any electricity at all, and to seal the black tank odor after "flushing". This concludes the pampered wife list.
Good and useful tips wildwest I grew up witnessing the fallout of most of your suggestions Aaaah, fun times!
Yeah, I don't call that camping, but my parents got a nice used ~30' Wildwood that's across from the cabin for extra people capacity. It works great.
Electric tongue jack and 4 manual scissor jacks for stabilizers. hoping to get an Onan QG RV 5500 soon. Camper is prewired and can be started from inside. But they are very expensive...Don't quite know why it came without it...
#1 accessory for good camping is dry wood. Nothing worse than a smoking smouldering use all the lighter fluid to get it going til the fluid burns off and back to smoke sting your eyes coughing our clothes stink lets just go in and waste a nice night of camping.
Love camping with our fifth wheel. After years of backpacking, car camping with a tent, and some borrowing a camper, it's a great time away. Must not have a current pic but our Fiver is not "roughing it". I frequent forestriverforums and RV.net. FRF is very active Just like here at fwhc! All that said, we moved into our new to us home, a 1900 Victorian with newer basement and Woodstove in the mancave. Probably won't be camping much this year as we are enjoying the new place. I've been cutting and stacking for two years and it's been great to have a few nights cold enough to justify burning. I'm def hooked and a full fledged hoarder. Went and hauled in a large pickup load tonight, that was cut over the winter, split and stacked it in my inside wood storage area (under mancave entry stairwell). Looking forward to next winter and burning continuously. !! Happy Campin and happy burnin!!!
