Had to look at a job this morning about 20 minutes from me. Long dead end street with recently cut wood that i normally wouldnt travel through. Stopped on the way back and grabbed some skinnies. There was another 6-8" trunk cut in sections, but it was elm...GROAN! (sorry Horkn ) Some bigger stuff that i'll need the saw. I got the job so when i go back i'll cut a round off the elm and hit it with the Fiskars to give it a try. Some bigger oak and ash too. I love surprise scores! Not much but a couple minutes to stop and load!
Cherry, sassafras and oak. NOTE: the chunkies & nuggets are from yesterdays load. IMG_1601.JPG IMG_1600.JPG

Even the half and quarter size pick up loads support the cause! Any haul is a good haul.

I mean, right? I think it's impossible for Brad to come home without wood.

Any time you bring home more wood than you can burn in a day is a good haul.

Brad, anytime you don’t want to split elm, just buck it up, and load it up. You can either drive it to my house or I’ll come get it from you. I like elm.
    I forgot the emojis.

I don’t know if we are a support group or an enablers group. Also Woodsman, I noticed you are from NW CT. I grew up out that way (Winsted); I’m more central CT now. In many ways I wish I lived a more rural life, but in other ways I’m not so sure.

That awkward feeling when you go for a ride with buZZsaw BRAD and he looks at you and says in a low tone.... "I think I'm getting wood...."

good point, just depends how easy it is to get. This stuff was just off the road so a few steps and lift it up. Last couple in a thicket.

I want to buck a log and try to split it first. I had scrounged elm roadside many years ago. Fresh cut green. It was in the dead of Winter. 14-16" diameter frozen rounds split easily to my surprise at the time. Because i hand split my scrounges are based on the splitabilty (is that a word) factor. The tree in question was 6-8" diameter, cut into sections. If its a no go for me what is your ideal length saewoody ? Ill be going there after Christmas sometime.
You had mentioned a Connecticut meet up. Hear back from any other Nutmeggers besides me?

Nice! We’re way up in the far corner of Winchester. Closer to Norfolk center than we are to Winsted. Love it out here. I grew up in Simsbury as one of the black sheep in town. Didn’t really fit in in the neighborhood. I need my quiet... and my trees.

Me too. Ive been so SPOILED with all the full PU loads i get. It has become the new norm for me. Before this year partial loads of uncut logs were the norm for me!
What areas are you currently scrounging from Woodwhore ? or has mother nature put you on hold???

Man you gave me a chuckle when you boasted about hitting the Elm with the Fiskars. That'll be like trying to beat a grizzly bear with a broom. You better bring a ten pound sledge and three wedges if you really want to give it a try.
