Maybe this will bring prices down.... The hunting and fishing company Bass Pro Shops is buying Cabela's for $5.5 billion
I was just waiting for this deal to go through so they would finally start construction on the Cabela's promised here.
this has been rumored for a while ,i dont think it will be good for us as shoppers ,bass pro is very high priced ,i hope they dont change cabelas to much they are high priced but not as high as bass pro ,both are fun to wander around in ,but i only buy items that are on sale , only time will tell if this is good or bad news, either way it is a bit sad to see.
theres a faq section at the bottom ,not sure i believe long term though ,im still mad at the bloodsuckers at smith and wesson and what they did to thompson center ,it happens time and again with these deals it never stays the same. Bass pro is fun to visit, never been to a Cabela's but order online alot. No tax (out of state) and they have a better selection than bass pro especially guns and reloading.
Aaaaaand there goes my source of $20 primer bricks At least it doesn't happen until Q1 2017 which gives me time to go buy another 20,000 of them.
Been doing so since 2012. Most people would say I don't need any more based on what I already have. Those same people think 2 rifles and a couple hundred rounds constitutes an "arsenal"
Well, Cabela's once bought out Gander Mountain and they are still around, so time will tell. Also, I think Cabela's pricing has been going up a bit too much as of late and their last couple of camo prints have been nothing short of terrible.
i think they only bought ganders mail order operation and gander was not allowed to have catalog/ online sales ,but that is over now, i remember ordering from gander in the 80s. your right about the prices going up but someone has to pay for the giant taxidermy displays and big honkin fishtanks ,and yes the new camo is a special kind of hideous ,oh how i hate change .
I still rock some old cabelas mt050 gore text bibs and coat in a real tree pattern that are many years old. It's the best gear I've ever put hands on. They quit making it of course. Why must all good things end? Lol
I can't see anything positive about this. I have never found the quality of goods at Bass Pro when it comes to reloading supplies and hunting clothing, compared to Cabelas. I hope Cabelas continue to be a leader in those areas.
I honestly think Cabellas is the better of the 4 major outdoor shops around us Gander Mountain, Field and stream, and Bass Pro. Cabellas is a great place to go. As for pricing they are all high in my opinion... Gander Mountain has been going way up and field and stream is just a super sized dicks sporting goods.
Yup and Gander Mountain bought Overtons out a few years later to restart its mail order division. I only remember that because we used to have the Overtons catalogs in the house with the Sears and Pennies mail order catalogs and Overtons became Gander Mountain catalogs.
Academy sports has good prices....for a brick and mortar. I'd I need something "now" that's where I go.
We've had a Bass Pro around us since 2001, but since Cabela's opened 2 years ago I haven't bought a single thing at Bass Pro. Cabela's ammo is SO much cheaper, and they have about 3x as much ammo selection as well. Heck, I can get AR15 2nd gen Pmags at Cabela's for $12 a pop. Bass Pro sells them for $18. It's been nice the last couple years to be able to buy stuff locally at prices I used to have to mail order to get. I'm really concerned that will change. I'm also curious how they'll handle the stores. Since that Cabela's near me opened it made the old Bass Pro store look bad since it was in a mall. They started building a brand new store last fall, it's almost done now, located within 5 miles of the Cabela's.
Cabela's is OK, we don't have a Bass Pro here. I have always shopped at LLBean. It is about 20-30 min. drive from here to the flagship store in Freeport Me. Wow, has that place grown over the years. I went there when there was a building that you walked up a flight of stairs to get to the retail area. Now it is a mega building with massive parking lots. That old building has been done over so many times, there is no recognizable part left. Jus old photos. They sell quality items and have a fantastic return policy. They are even open on Christmas day! All grandfathered in because they have been around so long. If you ever come to Maine, put a visit to that store on your list. You won't regret it.
I'm with you savemoney ll bean is great! Customer Service is fantastic the other good one for outdoor clothing and athletic supplies is REI..
