Obviously I can’t sell this to my customers so I figured it was a good day to burn some bubble gum in the fireplace. Logs were cut in the fall and split around Christmas. With all the shards and splinters this stuff is roaring but won’t last long. Heats up my living room quickly though.

That looks like the textbook "quick hot fire" there for sure. I avoid gum and thankfully not much around in these parts.

Not the most pleasant wood to split, but you went through the trouble so might as well burn it up. Impressive fire.

I'm not familiar with bubble gum. We definitely don't have that here. Looks like a PITA to split. But that fire needs to be on the front of a Christmas card!

Black gum and sweet gum. Not missing much Cash. Lower BTU hardwoods and miserable to hand split. I think his is black gum (aka tupelo) whereas sweet gum more common down South. As you can see by the pics they dont produce "pretty" splits.

Joe, maybe you could market that as "free kindling included with purchase" cordage!

Trust me fellas, I can't stand the stuff and try to avoid it at costs as well but when tree companies are dropping off, sometimes you get some. We have both black and sweet gum around here but this stuff I'm burning is black. As much as I can stand dealing with the stuff, I must admit, I do like it in the fireplace when it's splintered this badly. It kind of burns like a cardboard, kindling mix for the first 10-15 minutes before dying down to a more normal fire.
