Cooked up some burgers on the pellet grill this evening, came out quite tasty here is a great burger recipe, can use it on any type of a grill For around 2 pounds of burger: 2T Teriyaki (the secret ingredient and totally underrated in burgers) 2 tsp Worch to taste 2 tsp Tabasco Chipotle sauce 1T minced garlic Freshly-ground salt and pepper 1T of your favorite savory BBQ rub, with plenty of mesquite or hickory flavor 1 egg as a binder Whisk the above together, then gently fold in the meat. Then, when you put them on the grill (450-500 set temp), put a small sliver of butter in the middle top of each burger. It will slowly melt into the center and prevent it from getting dry.
that looks and sounds fantastic. I was outside getting stuff done before the rain and didn't eat yet...
yeppers, looking good on the grill. Kinda looks like summertime grilling. Whats your outdoor temps in WA?
What kind of pellet grill are you rockin? Last night I made burgers too but.... I had lacked on maintaining and cleaning the grill and had a grease fire lol. Poor Traeger... she's ok though. Got a thorough cleaning today. Deep clean twice a year is now the new regiment. Wish I had pics but no time, was putting out a fire lol
I am runnin a Green Mountain Daniel Boone model, I put the mangrates in when doing burgers / steaks http://mangrate.com/
I am DEFINITELY getting one of those! Thanks for the link. I got a good sear when my grill caught on fire but that has only happened twice haha.
grill grates are another option, they are made from aluminum though /not cast iron like the mangrates, http://www.grillgrate.com/ grill grates also make a model replaces the existing grates on your pellet grill, snoop around their website and you well see them
That's sweet, can you pull off a medium rare steak with a good sear that way on the pellet grill? That's what I'm after.... was almost thinking about breaking out the charcoal monster again for stuff like that. When it comes to smoking food I do well with the stock Traeger. Do you keep the heat baffles in as well or do you remove them to get more direct heat? Sorry for all the questions, I'm kind of a bbq fiend.
yeah you can do a nice med rare on a pellet grill, helps to have the grates though My Green Mountain is designed to go to 500 degrees, not sure if that is the case on a Treager or not I run my Green Mountain with the heat sheild over the burn pot, but I remove 1 of the 2 side (wind) shields that are in there, I use this configuration whether I am smoking or grilling There are a few pellet grill on the market that have the direct heat /sear option on them. but they are pretty spendy I'll give a plug to my 2nd favorite forum http://pelletheads.com/ here is the finished product from the 2 ribeyes in the above pic
I am actually a member of pelletsheads.com though it's been a minute since I've been there. Seems my Traeger as it sits won't do over 445f but there are settings I can play with to change that. I never tried it without the drip shield removed, that may help. It can be done but it's not the same as a charcoal burner. Thanks for the tips. I'm in the market for a more high quality pellet grill in the next few years but I can't complain about the Traeger. It's treated me really well so far, but like I said, better for long cook bbq than quick steak cooks etc. The pork shoulders turn out fantastic and every now and then I can cook up a bomb beef brisket but I've also screwed a few up, those are more difficult to cook for me.
