So, I was on my knees behind the Quadtrac replacing a grease zerk in the scraper hitch, when I felt something brush my ear. I just brushed it away, thinking it was to cold for flys or bugs. Happened again, just shrugged it off. Then something wet touched my ear! Turned around and was face to face about six inches away from this little buck deer. Scared the tar out of me. Thought it was a dog at first until I gathered my wits and realized what he was. Just milled around a bit, came right up to me a couple times, finally had to shoo him away when he looked like he was going to jump in my truck. Didn't seem sick, eyes were shiny and his ears were up.
Do you suppose it was hand fed by some neighbors or something like that? Or maybe just maybe, and this might be a long shot, you were in estrus?
That can happen with the young, especially bucks. And perhaps mama did shoo him away while she is dropping a fawn although I do not know when fawns are dropped out in your area. We commonly have young deer and many times even older does come right up to the house but we've refrained from trying to tame them. We've also had fawns born right in the yard many times and one time really close to the kitchen window. That is nice. Bgoathill I hope you got the zerk changed before he ate your ear!
