Well, I found a smoking deal on this old Ford. Cab is a '79, chassis is a '70, or so says the title. Said it has a 360, but I haven't taken the time to verify that. But it's got a 4 barrel Holley and she fires right up. It's got a miss as you give it fuel, sounds like it out of time a little bit. But it does run. Four speed manual that works, clutch feels fine, 4wd works well and hubs are pretty smooth. Dump bed works great. Will probably need to rebuild the cylinder at some time, but it works very well. The front tires are new and the back ones are in very good shape. The rims on the back are split rim (yuck) so I worked in a deal for four solid steel wheels on the buy. All said and done, I gave$1300 for it. I'm very happy. Pulled the bed off last weekend (man that was a job) to do some work to it. I cut the headache rack off and lowered it to cab height and fixed several awful welds. This weekend, I'm loading up some logs I cut off my property and taking them to a friend of the family that has a saw mill. Going to put some 2x6 oak boards on it. Weld back on the headache rack and some paint and the bed will be done. I've got to redo some frame parts. I'm going to plate the frame on all spring hangers with 1/2" steel. They are pretty rusty. I'm also going to fab some new over load spring hangers. One of them has actually rusted completely off. But, it was cheap for a working truck. Anxious to get her ready to work. Whatcha think?
Looks like a fun project. And, you know you won't be able to get that grin off yer face every time you dump a load you just hand loaded...
Nice It will look sweet with an FHC stencil on the door. Cherry bombs probably sound pretty good when she's spooled up in 1st - 2nd. Looks like they cut the dump/frame off another truck and welded it to the existing frame? - Probably why the headache rack sits so high, not like the shoebox is going to help the fuel mileage anyways

yeah the cherry bombs are on the way out the door! Actually busted a pipe off before the muffler getting the bed off because of a hanger I didn't see. So now it sounds like a drag car. LOL Yeah the bed certainly the one made for it. But I'll admit, they did a fair job mating it up. It goes up and down real well.
quite possible, a burned boot arcing to the manifold. Or it's a weak valve spring, burned valve seat, sloppy timing chain - I'll stop there before I get the new truck owner's wheels spinning Ford had one thing on Chevy with the rotor cap in the front of the block - slightly easier to set time
Very true-it could be a huge number of things. I haven't dove to hard into it yet. I did loosed the distributer and adjust the timing a little to see how it ran. Not big change.
Nice! My dad had a 79 F150. I loved that body style. I dont remember the fuel fill on the cab like that. The 1956 F100 wood truck we used had a cab fill with the tank in back of the seat. Wish I had both those trucks still. The 56 had 3 on the tree and no drivers door due to rust. Good luck with you new toy.
New rotor, distributor cap, wires, plugs and it may run great, that's the first thing I always do to the engine if I buy an older vehicle
