No, I don't mean that bees are boring, I mean bees that bore! Who all has them and how do you deal with them? I have recently become aware that you can trap these pests and will be constructing a trap soon. I've swatted them with rakes and tennis rackets, used insecticides, filled their holes with grease, etc. Little did I know that you can build a simple trap and sit back and let them kill themselves off. How to Build a Carpenter Bee Trap
Nice! I'd like to see your results- they're here in full force! You're getting warmed up for this weekend, ain't ya Dennis?
We have them by the hundreds here. They are very destructive. I made some traps they work but I found if you can put one or two in the bottom it will attract the others better.
Consider yourself lucky! It's odd, I don't recall seeing the first one until I was about 25 years old here. Now they are everywhere? Same with the dammed fruit flies. Don't recall those either for all of my formative years. I may try to make a trap this weekend. Supposed to be rainy.
I have a yellow jacket trap somewhere. Don't have too many issues with them around the house. Reminds me of something from a few years back after I drove out to Wyoming. My truck was pasted with bugs upon my return...just bug guts and parts everywhere! (there was a "hatch" of grasshoppers in S Dakota as I was driving through) I had never seen anything like it! They were so thick that my radiator actually took some damage to the fins! (cosmetic) I had guts and parts on my mud flaps from the ones that were run over or hit the tires! It was like the sound of "fat" rain, except it was bugs hitting my truck. This lasted for 4 or 5 miles with intensity varying. Anyways....when I got home I settled in for a 17 hour nap (drove 24 hours straight through) and when I went out to start unloading the truck there were about two dozen yellow jackets on the front of my truck. They were eating all the dead bug carcasses! I will never forget seeing that, or the Bug Storm I drove through at 2 am somewhere in the middle of S Dakota.
Thanks for this methods. This DIY trap is a must try! Removing wasp nest is a difficult task to achieve. We are currently facing the same issue. A few days back we encountered a wasps nest on our roof. We have tried using wasps traps and a raid wasps killer. But in this process, my brother got a serious wasps sting. Therefore, now to avoid more such stings, we are planning to take help of wasp removal NJ professional contractor. What else can be done to ensure my family safety from the harmful wasps?
I've seen those bees and their holes but they're far and few in between. One or two here or there, not dozens or hundreds. Hoping it stays that way. The new pest here is bald faced hornets. This year I found a paper nest the size of a football with a broken branch going thru it under an oak tree in the yard and they weren't too happy their home was on the ground and I was poking it with a stick. Darn things are aggressive and can supposedly sting stab you over and over again releasing venom every time.
We have those Hornets around here. Nasty things they are. I've been stung on two separate occasions by one. Once on the chest and once on the hand. It hurts like a mother..... Those were the only bee stings I've ever had that made me swell up. Not serious swelling just locally to the sting but man did it hurt. My understanding is they are only super aggressive around their nest. They will not chase you if you get far enough away.
Thanks I'm going to have to make a trap ! They showed up about 3 or 4 years ago here and are boring into everything. I have found that Napa brake and electric parts cleaner is very effective on them. A squirt in the hole and next day they are usually dead on the ground.
Welcome aboard Henry Zahn I've had issues with yellow-jackets here, seems like more every year. Also a minor issue with carpenter bees, but at least they're not very aggressive. Hope you get the wasps taken care of. Which wasp variety are giving you problems?
