This past winter was the first we have been through since building. I have a bit of a water issue on my lane which turned it into a sheet of ice last winter. I have a couple questions hoping you all can answer. image.jpeg image.jpeg

I figured posting the pics would help for visual. In the second pic Im standing on the up side of the elevation. The water runs along the lane on the left side and dumps out at the grass at the far end.

Im looking at installing a pipe under the lane close to where the grass is. Im either going to buy a prefabbed concrete culvert with grate or just taper the ground down to a pipe. I have never had to do this before. Is one method better? Do I have any other options? Thanks

Another note, I did specifically dig a trench along the lane so the water didnt just dump out onto the drive. Wondering if I leveled striaght to the drive if the water would disapate or if it would just cause issue farther up the lane.

Thank you. After many moons and buying/rehabbing houses I have realized my dream of living in the woods.

Plastic pipe will do fine, John. Its light weight, inexpensive and strong.
You saw mine and the neighbors. "Double wall" corrigated plastic with a minimum of one foot of 2a stone over it will support a triaxle. When I put mine in I think I got it from Long's Outpost. 24" x 20' was like $245. About 12 years ago. Probably $350 now

You'll probably want to make that ditch a little deeper to make sure the water cant jump across it during the winter. I'm guessing it kept freezing and backing up till it came out on the driveway

Its all running down to the end where it can dump out onto the drive Tim. I believe a precast box is going to be my best option. I called Fihoff in Johnstown. They have a plastic culvert also.

Even though this culvert wont see any traffic, for my peace of mind I believe I stay away from the plastic.

Figured I would update this since I made some progress. I was going to buy a prefab concrete box but I remembered I had the remaining stacks I cut off from the top of my septic tank.

I drilled an 8" hole in the side to accommodate a 6" pipe. The tube is set on 2' of 2b sandstone and filled around to the top with the same material. I just need to lay in the pipe under my lane. IMG_1660.JPG IMG_1663.JPG IMG_1792.JPG IMG_1795.JPG IMG_1796.JPG

The bottom of the pit is 64" with 2' of sandrock. The opening for the pipe is at 36" below grade. I have have never seen frost that deep so I should be good.
