No, I'm not going to smoke them, gonna drink them Being the "food" area of the site, I thought I'd show our wild patch that's in a wet area on the far side of the property down by the river. Me & my wife picked 5 gals. Sunday morning, gonna try making some wine. There are prolly an acre or 2 just like this, I've never really determined the limits of them, it's pretty tough walking in there and there are spots in the peat where you'll loose a 20" boot Any wine makers out there with tips ?
High bush are nice...easier to pick...further away from the deer crap. Been a little dry on this side of the state, I don't think the blueberries doing well this year.
I've never seen a patch that big. I used to brew quite a bit of beer and made some mead, but I've never made wine. Should be plenty of recipes out there. The one thing that is critical is sanitation. I used a product called starsan whenever I messed with anything related to sugars and yeast. If everything isn't spotless you can lose the whole batch. If you have a local homebrew shop they'll have what you need. Those blueberries look amazing
I've been in an extreme drought at my house. Even the rain our area has been getting has been staying a few miles to the south. My one lonely blueberry bush didn't produce anything this year. Looks like a nice harvest for you though fuelrod!
I don't know anything about making wine but those would make awesome jam and syrup. they almost look like our high bush blue huckleberries.
I had a huckleberry milkshake out around Polson Lake MT years ago, yum! "She" made the second blueberry cheese cake in a few weeks along with a blueberry "buckle" today, equal parts blueberry/cereal in the morning, it's driving me to want to drink (b.berry wine). Like I said, these are in a bog more or less, and it seems to be a real heavy crop this year. Some years your standing in water but with the drought and close to 20 beavers trapped out of the river nearby this past winter it's damp with wet spots, but much drier than normal.
Wine is like shine, you can ferment in about anything. Try to keep stuff clean but it's not imperative.
