This is driving me insane!!! It's 2017 and we're still getting unwanted calls!!! Yes I'm on the Do Not Call registry. I cancelled my land line about a year ago and only use a cell phone now. The last couple weeks I've been getting dozens of out of state calls. Mostly about my car warranty expiring... These warranty calls have been going on 6-7 years according to a .gov website. I got 3 calls in 30 minutes at supper time last night. 3 calls. 3 different numbers. 3 different states. Same recorded message. I have a company phone. So any time it rings I feel obligated to at least look at it to see if it's a call I need to take. Anyone using a call blocker app? Signed Totally Frustrated
I have been getting the same calls. They say press 2 to be put on the do not call list. But they keep calling. If I have time I ask them all kinds of questions about their services once I get the feeling they think I'm going to buy something I'll tell them that I was never interested i I hope I wasted as much of there time as I possibly could.
Same here. My new phone (Galaxy S8) at least shows "potential fraud" as the caller ID....but it still rings.
And if they're recording the call, they can use that as they see fit to scam you. If I answer at all (rarely for unknown numbers) it's only to say hello. If they ask if you are (insert your name here) and you say yes, that yes could cost you. If I don't recognize the number, I don't answer. Anyone who's important enough will leave a message. My wife's brother's numbers both show up as "unknown" or "restricted"........I still don't answer, because it may not be them. Got a call yesterday that said "Jamaica". On the Do Not Call registry and have been for years. My wife can't seem to resist answering the phone most of the time, although she's getting better.
If you have an IPhone goto call details. Scroll all the way down and there is a block caller feature.
You can do the same thing with an Android phone...the problem is they almost always use a different number (at least for the calls I get). I've blocked 5 or 6 in a day before.
Eventually you get most of them. It takes awhile. 4 years ago I was getting 20 a day on my business line. I almost got the Attorney General involved .I was losing business because of it. I've prolly got 1000 numbers on that block list now
Most of the ones I get show up with the same area code and exchange (765-505-xxxx) as my cell phone. They look like local calls.
That's what I use every single time I get one of these calls. If I don't recognize a phone number I ignore it, then Google search the number. If it's out of the area code or listed as a known scammer, I block it immediately.
We get a lot of those too, but again......if I don't know the number, I don't answer. It must be extremely frustrating for someone who runs a business though. What a waste of valuable time. Long time ago, our son used to answer and get 'em talking, then put the phone down and go do something else. Had to get after him, because that was back in the day when all we had was a phone line modem and one line.
Do not call registry has proven to not work. It really is a shame that a tool (telephone) can also be used to disrupt business or even personal lives. I don't have the answer for this crap.
some are spoofing numbers now if you call the number back you might get some innocent person that has no idea their number was being "borrowed" I don't answer any more if I don' recognize the number We're getting a lot here trying to sell electric generation power , mailings too. It must take a real special kind of person to try to scam friends and neighbors of money
We still have a home phone though Time Warnet which is now Spectrum. They have some setting that blocks these type of calls and it works great! I don't get many on my cell.
The last couple days I've actually considered having my fone # changed. It would be a major inconvenience for me as I have about 450 contacts in my fone. Not to mention the unwanted calls would probably start again soon...
Im on the Do Not Call Registry (for what its worth =$0). If I don't know the number, I don't answer. If no message in a minute, it goes on my blocked caller list. Not sure that's doing any good. Most people I know won't answer an unknown caller anymore. I would think that would put telemarketers out of business eventually. I understand business owners need to answer the phone, I feel for you. It's getting ridiculous. I'm not at all a fan of government oversight but it'd be nice to own a phone and not be constantly harassed.
