Not sure what happened, but the OG Black Rifles thread has gone missing. May be uncle Joe is to blame who knows.

I'll kick off Black Rifles 2.0.
For whatever reason I kept bucking the trend but eventually caved
S&W M&P sport was my first one. 1:8 twist with the 5R rifling. There has been no looking back since.

    Added a 2nd S&W M&P Sport not long after.

Very nice. Now that ammo is getting less scarce, and a bit more affordable, I should be sending more rounds through my x39 AR-15.

Just looked at the receipts on my desk... Rock River Arms in 450 Bushmaster & a Desert Eagle ordered Sept 21, 2020, and still waiting on them to show.

Eventually decided I wanted a down and dirty low budget knock around AR. PSA lower and mid length upper. Added a few minor upgrades and this what I ended up with. IMG_20150629_133628728_HDR.jpg

Unfortunately, lost all my guns in several boating accidents.

Wondering if there's a AR/vacation rifle pm going?

Anyone here replace the stock buffer springs with aftermarket....searching to reduce the box grater sound and feel? JP, Tubbs, Sprinco....? Pm if needed/ preferred. Thanks

Been using the Tubbs springs in AR's for quite a while. They work for 223/556, 350 Legend and my 450 Bushmaster. They are quieter, not terribly high priced and function very well.

Thanks Ronaldo.. do they help with that "cheese grater" sound and feel? Or just the sound part?

I think they are both smoother and quieter. I do oil the spring and buffer lightly, too.

So I just looked at this and see for some reason it says "vacation " rifles.... Either auto correct or the gremlin didn't like "black" rifle....that's what it was supposed to say.....

Are these AR's you have built, or are they manufactured rifles? Wondering if you sought out specific components for a build, or just upgraded certain parts.... I will have to pull the spring and buffer out of this particular rifle to see what I'm working with now. Someone else built the gun, so not sure what he used...but I want to get rid of / minimize the spring noise/feel. I may need to change out/upgrade the buffer as well.

For 25 bucks, the tubbs flatwire springs seem to be the easy solution. I'm not a fan of the regular springs noise either.

These are AR rifles that I have put together. I like to upgrade certain components like triggers and these buffer springs to name a couple. No need to change the buffer at all unless you want to try different weights.
