Thanks to jo191145 for the lead on this score from FBM. Turns out to be half mile down the street from me. Couple BL trees taken down and some dead ash. Work done Wednesday. I was able to back up to 20' away from smaller tree and 50' walk with wheelbarrow for the rest. Forgot to get pics of smaller tree. Lots of ants in them. Nail i didnt hit and one the tree guys did on a stump cut off. Load of BL off to storage. Some primo rounds. Other BL rounds awaiting the splitter. With this load roughly 2.5 cords at this location. At least two cords at my other. BL's are in full bloom around here. Several next to where these were felled. Balance of wood i took. One was too punky and some older remnants left behind. There was a few cedar/arborvitae on the other side of the yard. Took three long logs for the mill and dropped at buzz-saw's. Forgot to get pics. Had an audience from the small stream at the edge of the yard next to where the trees were felled. He told me to hop to it hoarder. I told him dont give me any bull, frog! Thanks again for the lead Joe. Appreciate you guys helping me with my locust mania!
Yeah I’ve noticed the blooms on a trip to Enfield. I dont think they stay that nice white for long. You wouldn’t believe the cedar specimen I saw a month ago. Three logs from one tree about 16 feet long each. Guesstimate a 28” tree perfectly round with no hollows. I could tell they had been stacked to be taken by the sawyer. You just don’t see logs like that very often around here. Must’ve driven past that tree 10,ooo times and never noticed it. It was then I realized I don’t notice a tree until it’s horizontal. Keep up the good work.
Little did Mr Frog know that one strategic bite to the thumb and freedom would have come quickly Y'all sure got quite the lil hoarding network goin on!
Leave those “aunts” (ants) home! Now I see why “froggy” hung around ,meals on wheels/ legs. Frogs are good for that! Great score! And better yet, for having friends that let you know about them! I finally made it to the local airport the other day! 6 gallons of good ole 92 octane Mogas @ 6.50 per gallon. But, to, me, it’s worth it,saws, mower, weed eater will be happy as well! Not really complaining about the price, to me,it’s worth it!
Actually just walked right up to it and grabbed it quick. Gave it a nice kiss hoping it would turn into a ravishing princess. No such luck as now i have a herpe on my lip!
Thats BIG for a cedar. Rare to see one that size IME. I did scrounge a short fat cedar log at the dump last Fall which is at buzz-saw's for the mill. Had to be 20" diameter. Yeah funny how we're more observant of trees when they are horizontal. Must be a hoarder thing!
Course, if that thing turns into a princess, you'll have a world of trouble on your hands. What will you do with your current princess? What if the new one looks like Shrek? Now you're locked to her (or she to you), and you're responsible for her. What if you find a devoted prince standing in front of you. Let that word out and that stream will be jammed with people looking for a prince or princess. (Like people who flock to the joint that sold a winning lotto ticket) Those poor frogs will never have had that much (unwelcome?) attention lavished. If the landowner charges a fee per frog kissed, they might make some cash. What if you get invited out to other streams and swamps to put them on the map? Or teach a short course on frog kissing at the scene.... Better not be kissing too many frogs I reckon.
Not yet. Class is over, work is busy, and I need to catch up on home projects. We have a tennant moving in tomorrow, so time is skinny. I finished the crazy wood score though, last load was Tuesday. Just about 3 cord ash and oak, split and for the taking. If we burn 6 a year, we have enough to finish out 2022, cover '23, '24, '25 and a couple against 2026 if we don't use more one year. Ill have to check out that tolland score though!.....thanks for the reminder. Sca
Hand split and stacked the BL yesterday. Being green it had to get stacked first. Before After. 12' x 7' stacks Found a nail i had cut through with the saw. Thought i hit something at the time, but couldnt find it. Found more while splitting
