Took down this 34" hybrid poplar for my uncle today. It was one of three they planted about 25yrs ago. The 394 and 365sp got the job done just fine :saw::smoke:

Thanks, My uncle heats with wood so most of it was cut into firewood length for him. We cut the trunk into two 10ft sections to possibly be milled.

bogydave it sure did! He's got a small farm at his place with all kinds of animals. When it hit the ground the turkeys and peacocks got all riled up  . Hyrbid poplars have short life span. Alot of them tend to die off around 30yrs so this one was close. Plan is to leave the other two for now until they start showing signs of decline.

    Just a few branches :picard:

We had some of those hybrid poplars. Stink pretty bad when you cut them and are very wet. Once dried, super light. We found they are not a very strong tree either as they kept breaking all over the place. Made a nasty mess.

Nice job getting that tree down.
I hate having messy tress in the yard. Limbs falling all the time. I've got grandchildren running around and I don't want to worry about dead braches falling. Odd, but the biggest offender of that for me are two oaks in the front yard. I can look up and see dead limbs at least 3 inch thick. We find them on the lawn after big storms. My maples and beeches don't see to do that.

Wet aint the word!! By the time the tree hit the ground, the bottom of the hinge had already filled with water! That sucker was a sopping wet mess. The bark was peeling off the trunk and some of the lower limbs and it was slicker than snot underneath. I actually took a tumble and tossed the 365 while limbing the tree when some bark slid off under my feet :emb:.

savemoney that's another reason he wanted it down asap. It was dropping limbs all over his yard and some were large enough to stick in to the ground a few inches. Sure don't want the dog gettin speared by a limb.

crzybowhntr, thought i tagged ya in the first post. The 394 ran great! Thanks again

Silver maples are another weed tree. Easily breaking off. Our native maple trees will loose small branches and trigs, but seldom those huge thick limbs that can be real killers. Another messy tree here is white pine. Seldom get through a winter without some limb losses. An evergreen not so messy with limb loss is the Hemlock. They are tough.

No question that oaks are constantly dropping limbs. Usually is a given that after a good rain, we have to clean up fallen oak branches.
