Had tree service over today to take it down. Too close to neighbors home to drop in one shot. They chipped the brush and left the wood, red oak. Unfortunately the entire trunk is rotted. Too bad probably close to a cord just in trunk. Still got some really nice wood for it .
Take the good with the bad I guess. 20191001_175255.jpg 20191002_160748.jpg 20191002_160751.jpg

In that first pic, it doesn't look all that big, but in the 2nd and 3rd pic it's huge!

Too bad about the trunk rot, it doesn't look that bad from the pics... Still a lot of wood.

    Beautiful lake house there!

I noodled the base-stump piece into quarters with my little 16 inch saw, cut like butter. Like I said all rot.

Good sized tree TMACK . What is the stump diameter?
Ive been watching Asplundh cut some huge oaks around the corner from me. I stopped and talked with one guy who is keeping the wood. Tree has to be 36" at the stump.
Nice that you can nibble away at it and its right in your yard already!

It’ll burn, just get what you can split and stacked. Worst you can do is burn it in a burn pile or let the rain take it.

Don't worry about the rot, once split, it will dry along with the good wood. All will burn nicely in your stove. I would certainly use it. Enjoy the warmth 3 years from now.

There probably is some rot in there but I'm betting there is still lots of good wood to burn there. And you know the tree was not dead by seeing all the leaf on the tree. I'd grab all of it and put it in the stacks.

If it splits and not crumble, then it goes on my stacks.

Got it all cleaned up today and hauled to the splitter for processing. Will salvage what ever I can. I'm sitting on 20+ cords now so don't have to be to picky. 20191003_083020.jpg 20191003_083025.jpg
