I delivered firewood to a new customer this afternoon. In google maps it’s listed as a farm. While loading up I’m wondering why a farm would need to purchase wood. I roll in and see chickens and big white dogs and sheds. They have pigs somewhere too that I didn’t see. During unloading conversation he mentions he has big Beech blow down he wants to show me. He asks if it’s good firewood. I have seen some big Beech in my life so I’m thinking wow this is going to be something. I’m thinking this guy doesn’t have a 661 with a 32” bar, so I’ll offer to cut it up for a few loads of big rounds. We finish unloading and I tell him I want to grab my phone to get a picture of this Big Beech. I’m thinking massive trunk this is going to be awesome. It’s an old farm with open fields it’s going to be a giant. Welp maybe 80 yrs ago before the original crown broke off and the trunk rotted out. :emb:

Funny how everyone's definition of big logs varies. I've had folks say the logs are big and I arrive and nothing over 18":picard:

I like beech! I have a nice size beech top in my woods I’ve been getting a little at a time. It’s about as far away from my house as you can get and the only way to get to it is on my side by side. Ive brought down 3 loads and have a couple more to get. I’m leaving the standing trunk because it’s bigger than I want to work with.

The weirdest thing about it is the location description. I wouldn’t say they are anywhere near downtown Lewisville. Maybe as the crow flies.

Osage and Beech my 2 bucketlist woods. There's a guy on my route who has the biggest Beech rounds I've ever seen probably 36" diameter or a tad bigger. They've been sitting for a while so I'm hoping he decides he doesn't want them at some point.

I thought it would make sense from the op. The owner asked if Beech was good firewood and proceeded to tell me he had a chainsaw and would process it. Now they are looking for someone else to do it. If there was a decent trunk I would consider it. I’m not cleaning up someone’s brush pile for a load of limbs. If you burned wood and had a chainsaw wouldn’t you cut it up for firewood?

Excellent question! I missed part where he had saw; figured he was buying wood.. in my yard there would be cutting and a fire to burn rot and brush.

He bought wood from me and I’ll keep selling him wood. Just figured he might want to save a few bucks by bucking up some Beech and Walnut. Maybe when he showed me the Beech he thought I would say “wow can I have it?” I sell wood to a bunch of folks that have piles of rounds and fallen trees in their yards so it shouldn’t be surprising I guess.
