    ...sell firewood!

    Hey folks!

Slightly controversial subject here but I’m doing this as it’s out of necessity for the lady and I who might be getting into a new house within the Summer time. Couple of stipulation as follows:
My lady asked her parents if they were willing to help with tree removal last year as she had just moved in her house with two sons in January. The cash here is to help recoup costs from that venture. Also no stove in house there.
I won’t be letting someone keep my wood (not moving too far from where I am now) unless a good enough deal has been made for the house.
We’ll be selling it from my lady’s place first(black locust) and moving most of mine since it is likely ready to burn.
I have set up a couple of ads but I’m asking those who do sell to give their idea when selling is more productive and when do you give leeway in your price. Not looking for an amount but maybe a percentage? Firewood is negotiable at this point heading into Summer..
To give you an idea of what we’re doing here... B9B46FAA-D4FB-4B37-A1E1-B6A4AF46C69A.jpeg 06ECFF85-543E-40F1-BBB8-85BFB7B40E00.jpeg
If we don’t sell, likely to move with us or a part of it.
Also more not yet split on her property out of the frame so maybe about 2-3 cord in total...my cord measuring is entirely guesstimate but with a bit of measuring a little bit ago too so the stack has been growing a bit at a time.

If it were me and I wanted to keep the fire wood I would get it out of there. When we listed our house I made it clear that the stove and firewood were not included. The buyer did not want the stove(he said it was a piece of junk) as he was installing a pellet burner. However he tried to use the wood as a negotiating point. He wanted to use it in an outdoor pit:bug:!

There was still some time in the burning season so I said I would leave what remained at the end of the season. I filled a couple dump trucks and left a couple wheelbarrows if wood.

He was a bit upset at the closing when I said my piece of junk stove burned all the wood!

If there is a demand for campfire wood in your area bundle it and sell it way more profit.

People shopping for firewood now most likely are knowledgeable and foresighted woodburners. They should appreciate the quality of what you are selling, and expect to pay a premium over what generic firewood sells for. List it at a high price, and see what happens. Don't low-ball it until right before you move.

Last year I sold more off cuts of wood for folks pit wood so they could enjoy some summer burning and that’s what happened during times when it was a busy weekend(july 4th or whatnot). I made it fair. It wasn’t like the local grocery wood which was just hard to look at at 5 bucks a bundle which was half rotten. So I was selling a wheelbarrow full of good mixes and kindling and firestarters and the extra wasn’t bad. But nothing close to extravagant.

I’m leaving my wood stove. Hee. This is true. Unless someone doesn’t want it there, I wish to just use my house sales and work on getting another one. Something to ask about later.

Most of my keeping wood is the wood I’ve been working on and looking forward to using in a bigger home with more efficient than smaller home.

I know the value of this wood having ysed it in my house. Can’t believe what others think because if someone knows what I posted, they probably think I know. It’s not a Loss per se getting rid of it, I just have enough wood for us to compensate that the drying time for my lady’s wood would be used in 3-5 years later and by then I’ll have gotten more.

    Move it before the listing.
What can't be seen can't be used as a bargaining chip.

9/10 a prospective buyer doesn't want it and even if they do will likely say they don't and are afraid of bugs lowering the value of the property.

If getting it out of there means selling it look on Craigslist for prevailing rates and see what the market will bear and go down a little in a couple weeks or whatever time frame you have to make it gone. I'd move it somewhere before I gave it away but that's me.

Around here about the only chance one would have of selling firewood at this time of the year is to practally give it away. I have seen some good sized stacks sell at auction sales but even then it was next to nothing compared to what the wood was worth.

So my guess, it will be difficult to get rid of that wood now unless you can sell it for campfire wood.

I agree and we’ll make that decision come time. Least we know a lot of the options and scenarios but having asked here confirms that the ball rolls either way.

I wouldn’t be selling that Locust....nope. Too good to not keep. And not that you said it would come to it, but certainly without a doubt it should never be wasted in a fire pit. That’s just heresy.:faint:

I agree altogether! :yes:I don’t really want anyone to use it in their pit. Doug fir is great for that and plentiful enough around here. Just hard to get rid of a hardwood that might have a bit of a stigma here plus expensive to buy as well. What we have been doing is branches have been cut and burning its own stumps (tops were dead) but I’ve been strictly saying don’t be burning this wood outside, too valuable.
The stigma it carries isn’t the issue with the flue...the sticky stuff that is. It’s the smoke and smell. I’m pretty sure that I have listened to the preacher, the choir and the rest of you about this...let it dry and keep it dry!!!! Some folks around here think that I would be splitting wood and throwing it in within weeks of cutting it. Bunch of dingbats...
    :heidi:
On another note Eric, I have about a cord and then some of this stuff that had been standing dead for god knows how long...having split stacked and in the sun and covered in the winter.... It’s good son. Can’t wait to use it. Maybe even give it another year..:D
