Should have completed the task of changing out gaskets, cleaning cat, etc but got a bit intterupted. Replaced gaskets in bypass, cat, air and top lid. Still have the firebox door to do and reseal the interior and check the chimney. I did also replace the scoop so now have the SS scoop. I'm probably about the last one to change it out.

Can see it is in really good shape. Many more years of heat still in it.

I replaced my cast iron scoop with the new one a couple of weeks ago along with the door gasket.

gmule did you have any problems getting the old one out? I broke a socket and then twisted off one of the bolts. Thankfully, it was one of the back bolts which is not needed for the new scoop. But, a few 4 letter words and the new one went in rather easy.

Hey Dennis Backwoods Savage , your Cat looks awful close to the IS cat, the only difference is the flange we have.
Tell me how you give yours a bath, distilled water and vinegar?

Also, did Tom ever get into making his own cats like he said he wanted to?? I know he showed his
furnace cement machine when we visited last year

A few years ago I was stuffing a load in and broke a scoop support and had to replace it. When I put it back together I used a high temp anti seize the same stuff you would use for installing an oxygen sensor because my bolts were stiff coming out. This time around they came out real easy. Now that I have the stainless steel cat I use the same anti seize on those bolts as well. My stove was built in June of 2001 so I got 15 years out of the original scoop. This stove is built to last and with parts being available I think it could last a lifetime.

    Same cat!!!

I've done the regular bath (hot) and can send you the directions if you need them. But the last time I used a quart of vinegar and quart of water, heated it to a boil. Then put into a spray can and spray the cat. Follow this with a rinse and then be sure to get it all dry before building a fire in it.

Thanks gmule Yes, I did use anti seize on the bolts. You did better with the scoop. My stove was built in 2007.

Looks to be much cooler next week but no cold yet. I'm betting the second week in October. Time will tell. How about at your place?

It's another warm week without an rain. We should start burning at the end of during that first week in October if the forecast stays the same.

I'm hearing the backhoe (gotta confirm it ) will be in by the start of the second week of October, maybe the first week.

Rain moving through north of us. More in Wisconsin but I expect it to break up before it gets here.
