Neighbors had a BIG basswood tree removed to make room for their new house. They asked if I would take the wood, and being a nice guy, I said sure. Had no plans to use it indoors so it took 3 years to split and cut the stuff for firepit fuel. It's been stored out of the weather for 8 months, I can't believe how light and fluffy (way punky) the stuff is. Dry, too. The bugs that turned it to a sponge must have eaten most of the fire chemistry in it, 'cause it doesn't burn worth a darn. Now it's a race to rid us of 1/3 cord of punky dry lethargic stuff.
