A friend of mine called and asked if I'd be interested in taking about a face cord of split firewood he had stacked in his shed. He converted his fireplace to a gas insert and had no use for the wood. It's been in the shed for over a year and he wasn't sure what kind it was. Stopped there after work and found out it was all beech! Yessir, I'll take it all! I haven't had beech firewood in years!
IMO Beech is one of the best of the best! I have some wind damaged Beech on the far edge of my property I hope to get to soon.
Love me some beech. It and Sugar maple are my favorites for high btu's. Was it dry enough to burn now Buck55? Did you put a MM to it?
It's been split and kept dry for over a year and looks good to go. When it cools down again here I will use some and let you know. I can't seem to find my MM and suspect my son has it at his cabin (dang kids).
Finally got my moisture meter back, and sampled a few pieces. 25.7% on average! More seasoning is in order!
I’ve seen some listings that say beech dries in one year but in my experience it’s more like two. I’m with Horkn
