This was in a creek by my house, downstream from where beavers have been working. The beavers whittled both ends, and it's the length of a piece of firewood.

I put some waterseal on it, wish it was lighter, but it's what I had on hand.

If yall have found some interesting finds, feel free to share.

Pretty cool. It's crazy the amount of damage they can cause. Buddy of my dad's and my old scout master just trapped a 55lber the other day around here.

That'd make a great 'Welcome' sign on the porch!

I don't know for sure. Where he was working, there is a little pool by the creek, and there's alot of willow trees that shoot up and get pretty big in a short amount of time. This would be fairly large for willow, as we cut em down, but that's my guess.

That would make sense. Very predominant tree in wet locations and a lot of critters like nibbling on willow.

If you're talking about the color of the piece of wood being lighter, you could always get a bucket of water with some bleach in it and use a scrub brush on the piece of wood; then rinse it off with a hose. I have done this on wood decks a number of times and the treated wood turns out looking just like it is new.

The go ahead and put your finish coating on it

    Thats cool. Thanks for sharing.

This was a woodpecker hole foraging for ants in the punky center of an oak log. Found at a recent scrounge IMG_4890.JPG IMG_4891.JPG

You should put a board on top, put it on a post, and you have a natural bird house.

May have to try this eventually. The only other thing I have on hand is Tru-oil. It would give a more natural color, not sure on weather resistance.
