I have a craftsmen cordless set (Drill, Impact driver, Light, Reciprocating saw). 19.2 v Li. The tools work great for my needs. Went to charge a battery and when I placed it in the charger/cradle none of the status/charging lights came on for the charger. I checked to make sure it was plugged in and it was. Tried plugging it in elsewhere and tried the other batter as well...still nothing. I have always kept the charger plugged in the garage on a GFI outlet and never had a problem (tested the outlet and it is good). Craftsman C-3 Model 5336 charger. You think the charger is dead? Did I screw it up by leaving it plugged in? ...never had a problem before and hate to buy a new charger...but....??
I thought the same thing...no fuse that I recognized. Seems like it would have been a good idea. Looked like everything was soldered onto a circuit board
XXL...thanks...just went through the article and my charger...no luck...no fuse on the plug or unit. Also looked at the video...not the same set up...that looks like my charger for the older Ni Cad style. Thanks again though!
Likely the charger has crapped out, however have you tested the terminals of the charger with a volt meter when it is plugged in? Might just be the lights.
I don't leave chargers plugged in any more as some designs are in in standby using varying amounts of parasitic power. I figure not only is it posssibly eating power but the part of the power supply that is still on is eating up its "expected life". I'm eaither unplugging things or using switched power strips. Fuses on pcbs are not always typical glass/replaceable fuses, they sometimes are sitting in diode looking packages and have to be unsoldered and there are probably some now in smt packages. I've bridged open ones with fuse wire. Sometimes a circuit trace becomes a fuse. AGain-fuse wire. Its usually a good idea to try to ascertain why a fuse blew if it did.
Thanks...I looked at the circuit board again and think I see the fuse or at least what might be the fuse all soldered in. I picked up a replacement charger on Ebay for $30...see how that goes. I appreciate all the help from folks... I have had about 4 or 5 sets of cordless tools over the years...never had a charger go bad...I am sure I will be unplugging this one when not in use.
Craftsman brand should have a lifetime guarantee. You should be able to bring it to any Searrs store for replacement.
Only the hand tools have the life time guarantee, not anything electric. I would have gone to the Store in a heart beat...but, the last two in my area closed last month. The nearest Sears is about 1.25 hours away...Pretty sad about it...loved that place.
