Picked up 5 ton of BF the other day. The store just received 2 loads and started advertising for the season. I noticed they stopped putting a manufacture date on the bags which is mildly disappointing. I like to rotate stock. Just something I noticed.

I can't find Hammer Hots. I'd love to pick some up bu I think I'd have to travel too far and its not worth it. I also picked up a ton of American Fiber softwood pellets. Hope I don't regret that one.

Those AWF softies burn nice but they sure do like to funnel like crazy in the hopper.

I would say that more of the softies i have burned funnel more than not..
seems like too much loose fines is the culprit.
they clog up my slideplate and nothing gets thru thereby backing up[ funneling] on the side walls of the hopper.

Last year was my first year with an Harman Accentra insert. I usually push the pellets down the hopper when I check it or fill it. Now these things not sliding down the hopper and it not feeding will suck. But I guess its live and learn.

The good news for you is that I've never had that problem with Barefoot. I'll end up with maybe a couple handfuls of pellets left in the hopper. It's almost like they're hand-polished or something ;)
I agree with Tullytown (go Iggles!) that a buildup of fines makes the problem worse.

Back to the dates... yes, I noticed that the bags I've bought this year were undated. But I always assumed that was just the date the bags were printed up.

Agree, I doubt they would stamp each bag with the date just before they fill it!

Believe it or not, some mills do stamp the bags at the time they are filled. I picked up some at the end of last season, they came from Eastern Shore Forest Products (bought at TSC). See picture below, I bought these on March 18. Talk about fresh?

since my last post i burned a ton of hamer hots and no pellet funneling or fines jams at the slide plate so it's deff a softwood issue..
