Just wondering how closely related the bar oil usage is compared to gas usage on your saw.

Husqvarna 240 with a non adjustable oiler -bar oil and gas seem to drop the same unless I use a thinner mix. Even then it's not that much more. Basically a tank of fuel through my saw will slobber out a tank of oil.

    What does your saw do?

Someone on another forum mentioned that with pro saws, a tank of bar oil would last two tanks of gas. Is this legit? I thought a pro saw would most likely have an adjustable oiler, and a bigger bar, so more bar oil use.

Lots of variables, oil tank capacity vs fuel tank capacity, elevation, air fuel mixtures, cleanliness of air filter etc. I have had lots of saws that go one for one on gas vs bar oil. Trying to say a saw should get a certain fuel mileage is like saying all V8s should get the same fuel mileage. What I am getting at is I don't think it is abnormal at all to go one to one on bar oil vs fuel. Now, if you were talking a saw that everyone else is going one for two on and yours is the only one going one for one, then I'd dig a little deeper.

saskwoodburner don't have a lot of experience with husky.. but sithl 260 and 461 original no mods on average ate 2 gas and 1 oil.. if that helps..

I have a stihl 260, 261, and a 230 and they all are about one tank of gas to one tank of oil, with just a small amount of oil left. I do have the oil adjusted up just a bit from factory setting on the 260 and 261, but I don't think the 230 is adjustable.

Going by capacities that pretty much looks like a 2:1 ratio, but I think the guy was speaking in tanks worth. In any event, I thought I'd ask as I don't have a pro saw.

I have had a variety of saws and generally they all use 2 tanks of gas per one fill on oil. I always always fill both at the same time. When I had an 066 with a 32 inch bar, it was adjusted to use maybe 3/4 oil per 1 gas. I see no issue with overoiling, except expense. Rather more than not enough. I also use a professional grade oil, not used motor oil or Walmart stuff. Good luck:dex:

My 029 super uses 2 gas fill ups to 1 chain lube fill. Same thing with my buddy's 460 Magnum. The 460 just uses more of both gas and bar oil.

In think most of the saws I've ever run are 2 tanks of gas to 1 bar oil tanks.

This may have a lot to do with the bar and chain length when you have adjustable oilers.

Husky 455, 576 & 395. All oilers cranked up to 11. Usually have a slosh of oil left after the gas runs dry. I stock up when menards has a bar oil sale. Currently sitting on 22 gallons of the old FVP got a few gallons of the new stuff to try.

Almost all of my saws have adjustable oilers. They are set to oil at max and they should run out of gas just before running out of bar oil.

My Stihl 260 and 461 have the oilers set up to max. I always fill up both at the same time, but I don't think I could get 2 tanks of gas on 1 of oil-pretty close, probably 1.75 gas to 1 oil.

My 241/260's/034/361's/2171/394/660 all run 1 fuel to almost 1 complete tank of mix , I start looking for problems if they don't .

I don't look that hard I just top the oil off everytime I put fuel in it. Running out of fuel is not as damaging as not realizing your saw is out of oil. Bars and chains are too expensive to burn them up on something that is so easily preventable.

It will last 2 tanks if you have the oiler turned way down. most of my saws use about 90 to 90% of the oil to tank of gas. my husky 372 will empty the oil before gas sometimes:eek:

I have my Stihl 361 oiler adjusted at the maximum, and I use about 75 - 80% of the oil tank when I burn a full tank of pre mix.

Never seen anything close to 2:1 on mix-oil tanks, with non-adjustable or adjustable oil delivery. Most all run out of fuel with a small amount of oil in the tank. Adjustables set to just enough to keep chain properly lubed. As mentioned, it'd be a REALLY BAD THING to run oil dry before fuel. Why try? :loco:

I'd be looking at the bar oiler hole to make sure it wasn't plugged or line up correctly .

Very true, But every now and then we see bars and chains that are magically colored different hues of blue and black too.:zip::jaw::hair:

On my Husqvarna I can get a tank of oil to last for 2 gas fill-ups and there's still some oil left over when I fill up a third time. I like running a 13" bar so my oiler is turned all the way down.

On my Makita, a tank of oil lasts about 1.5 tanks of gas, so I top that off with every gas fill-up. I wish I could turn that oiler down more as it drops a ton of oil on the 20" bar I normally run, way more than it needs.
