So I sold a saw today and the huy had asked about what I used it for. Mentioned the 6 cord pin oak I cut with it and he asked about when I burned it. Told him its still stacked and wont be burned until its three years CSS. So he says you know what I used to agree with you but I bought a book at a chainsaw get together and it says that studies show stacked off the ground with airflow that wood will season to 15-20% in just 3-4 months! I sia I call BS theres no way, he said he is skeptical but curious. At least he is skeptical, I told him I wont burn anything close to that soon as I will just sizzle out water in the stove and of course he said ya that's no good but still he was hoping to get wood to season in just a short time. I think he will throw that garbage out soon.
If you stack the wood so it is oriented to where the tree would have been upside down, it will season in 1 month. It is now on the internet so it must be true.
O I thought it was if you dug a whole put a bridge over it and then stacked the wood on the bridge. After which you would completely cover it with a tarp that it would dry in 2 weeks ! Something about how hot air flows..
Looks more like BS flowing instead of water or air....They found another sucker since he parted with some cash for that book. Reminds me of those books telling you how to get rich & retire before 40...Yeah you guessed it - write some worthless crapola & if you're lucky enough people will fork over $19.99 so that will happen...
Amazing how much bad and useless info appears on the Internet. Most of the articles from home improvement sites (who should know better) say that 6 months to a year is all that is needed, depending on species. Don't these people own a stove? I read two differing opinions of solar kilns, too. A moisture meter, and 3 years time, are the simplest way to guarantee dry wood.
Lol, you can't fix stupid! He will figure it out in good time. I have argued with people about seasoning wood for years and they still refuse to do it. Both my Brother in laws just started cutting for this year . I finally quit talking to them about it since it was like talking to a brick wall.
My friend still has not cut the logs up I dropped last year at his house. He does not want it to dry out!
no they don't own stoves, they have a part time job at a big box store and have sold a few stoves. The videos are more or less for more content and internet hits which translates into more traffic and more sales. They just were told that is what is right and so they pass it along in such a useful video.
The Maple I c/s/s this time last year is burning great with no sizzle fo shizzle, same for the Oak.......except it's almost 3 years old. Next year, the Maple will be 2 years old. Ought to be super duper.
My neighbor cuts in August for burning that winter. He asks me why I come home with wood all summer long and keep piling it up. I've tried to explain but some folks just can't be convinced.
Still many out there that cut today & burn tomorrow . I meet a few of them every year. They don't know what dry wood is or how well it burns, & probably never will. We can only preach about dry wood & lead by example
Actually, and this is true if it is split horizontally it will season in 2 weeks! If split vertically and with a milk crate involved it will take 3 years!! Gary
